Gas prices continued to plummet across metro Atlanta on Monday, with a gallon of regular unleaded selling for under $3 a gallon at some stations.
But the average metro Atlanta price reported by gasbuddy.com — $3.34 a gallon — was still about 16 cents higher than the national average price.
Prices across town Monday varied widely, topping out at $3.79 at a few stations.
The cheapest gas in metro Atlanta Monday morning was $2.79 a gallon at Auto Indulgence, a car wash in Alpharetta. A Shell station in Buford charged $2.89 a gallon, according to gasbuddy.com, a Website that tracks gasoline prices.
Gas for just under $3 a gallon was reported on Cheshire Bridge Road and on Moreland Avenue in Atlanta, as well as in Conyers and Dawsonville.
A week ago, the average price in metro Atlanta was $3.89.
One month ago, just after Gulf Coast refineries were hit by the one-two punch of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, Atlantans, when they could find gas, were paying an average of $4.08 a gallon.
