With the Weather Channel now in its fold, NBC said Tuesday it would shut down its homegrown weather network, Weather Plus.
NBC said financial pressures combined with its parent company’s purchase last month of Atlanta-based Weather Channel were factors to shut down Weather Plus, which operated a cable television channel and Web site.
“NBC Universal’s purchase of the Weather Channel, coupled with the ongoing financial and distribution challenges facing Weather Plus, made the venture no longer feasible,” NBC officials said in a statement.
Officials declined to reveal the Weather Channel’s price tag, but news reports say the network, Web site and other weather-related properties went for $3.5 billion.
