Alex Naylor stepped out of the Majestic Diner near Virginia-Highland to have a cigarette and talk to a girl on the phone.

The next thing he knew, somebody stuffed a bag over his head and pushed him into a vehicle outside the well-known restaurant on Ponce de Leon Avenue, according to a police report.

The incident happened May 14 at 3:30 a.m.

One man was driving and another was patting down Naylor's back pockets for a wallet, according to an Atlanta police report.

Naylor, 22, of Atlanta struggled with the man who was trying to rob him while the other kidnapper drove them around. Soon after, Naylor was able to open the door and jump out of the rolling vehicle, the report said.

As he leapt from the car, one of the kidnappers grabbed the bag and snatched it off Naylor's head.

He was able to call two other men to pick him up from a nightclub on North Avenue, not far from the Majestic.

The kidnappers didn't get anything from Naylor, who declined comment when reached by phone Wednesday.
