Lost in Transition
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
At a recent gathering of co-workers I asked, how long do I have to live here before I’m considered a Georgia Peach? They said no matter how long I live here I will always be a northern transplant. But I don’t feel like I’m northern or southern.
There is a group that throws parties and if you have a northern ID you get in for free. Well, I don’t have anything to show my northerness unless you count the Jersey drive attitude. I don’t have a northern accent and I don’t have a N.J. driver’s license.
It’s like I want to hold on to my northerness but Georgia is clearly my home. I work here, I have a home here, I pay taxes here, I vote here. How many years can I live here yet still claim New Jersey? When I meet people I’ll say I live on the Eastside but I’m from New Jersey. Will there ever come a time where I’ll only claim Georgia and not New Jersey?
So, I’m lost in transistion. Home will always be home, but I can’t continue to claim a place that I haven’t lived in for over six years. I know I’m not the only transplant feeling this way. How did y’all handle moving and settling here? Or are you still dealing with it? I’ve heard it doesn’t matter where you from but where you at … but here in Atlanta, it does seem to matter where you are from.

First of all, I don’t give a hang about what OTHER folk consider a Georgia Peach to be. My butt has been stuck on enough doggone GA highways, logged enough traffic hours, and been ticketed by plenty of Georgia’s finest to EARN that title that I have just bestowed on my damn self, and I wish a mofo WOULD try to tell me different! (LOL!)
Second of all, in the big scheme of things, it doesn’t matter what you consider to be your home, as ridiculously cheesy as that saying is, home IS where your heart is. My heart is in Bama with my folks and here with my loved ones who I have adopted as family. I feel like I transitioned quite well in the ATL and have even thrived. If I wasn’t, I doubt I would have stayed here past 2 years. I love the city and I have stopped twitching in traffic now that I am more acclimated to it.
Mia, do you feel as if you aren’t accepted or something? I am not sure how much weight you put on that whole where you are from issue because people will always have their opinions on that. What is most important is that you have made a great life for yourself here and you enjoy doing what you do. Does it matter to you all that much where you are from? Is it other people’s perception or are you the one focusing on it?

I see where you went wrong, asking your co-irkers their opinion. uhh…my co-irkers opinion would not be requested AT ALL. They just don’t know that much about me to decide if I am a Georgia Peach or not. You can claim whatever the heck you want, girl. Just be prepared to defend your roots if somebody wants to clown northerners or southerners. You just have to spread your loyalty. (OK I have to go toss the rest of this Starbucks, I am a little too hyper this morning)

moved to the ‘A’ on july 2, 1997…will always be a north florida Kountry girl…and yes…that is Kountry with a capital K…when i was young i wasn’t proud of the fact that i grew up in a town that only had one high school with only 500 students…i knew everybody in my high school if not by name then definitely by site…and of course everyone knew my name…my summer past time was picking peas and canning figs under the tutelage of my grandmother…i grew up listening to johnny cash, the oak ridge boys and hank williams, jr., dolly parton, loretta lynn and barbara mandrell…one of my favorite songs growing up was the devil went down to georgia…my first introduction to comedy was not richard pryor…it was jerry clower…and i wanted nothing more than to be the first black queen in the beauty pageant at the watermelon festival…
but as i grew and matured…i learned to be proud of where i came from…the Kountry way in which i was raised instilled values in me that i have come to appreciate…and i have come to realize that some of the best people on the face of the earth are the countriest ones you’ll ever meet…but…i wouldn’t trade ‘em for nothing…
because….i was country when country wasn’t cool…

Good Morning Mia I totally agree with wise. It’s so refreshing to wake up to your analytically correct comments Ms Diva! Personally my attitude no matter where I am is like THE HELL WITH MUGS & THEIR PERCEPTION OF ME!! Especially if u don’t even know what I go through or how my bread is buttered.Peoples opinion of me is just that; OPINIONS!Which most of the time holds no true weight.I feel once people get to know u for who u really r,all the labels should b set aside cuz none of that ish matters in the real world.Usually insecurity plays a major role in people that some how decides to place labels on others that r more than likely a threat to them in some way or another.

Yo, youse guys! (See? You can take the goil outta da Nawtheast…) But seriously, I was born & raised In Joisey & spent a LOT of time in nearby Manhattan. I’ll always consider it home. I lived in S Fla 18 horrible years & moved to ATL 3 years ago. I’m not experiencing culture shock at all. I love it here. It’s just like being up North but better, in ways. We have “sweet tea”. “meat & 3” restaurants, all that totally off-the-chain Southern food (can you tell I haven’t had breakfast yet??) & friendlier folks. Know what? I don’t think I even KNOW anyone with a Southern accent

sup shawty…….being southern, or being a georgia peach….is more attitude than anything else. i still see some yankee in ya….but not to worry…we’ll make a peach out of you yet.
also, being a peach involves letting go of your northernness…not saying all of it, but some of it will have to be exchanged for the ways of southerners…

Good Morning All! Great topic Mia. I moved here from TX to go to college. I don’t think I felt very different because I had lived in the south before and the students at my school were mostly transplants as well. I don’t think it’s about being a GA Peach or not. I think it’s cool to rep where you’re from as well as where you are, because I have learned so much from people who have totally different backgrounds than I do. I was military growing up so I don’t really have a hometown that I rep and I don’t have an accent. Maybe I could come up with a name for myself like Tiger Woods that reps for all the places I’ve lived! lol

I have to spend 5 minutes explaing where I’m from then they ask oh so your just in town visiting…NO I live here oh I thought you were from __, well that is what you asked. How about just asking…Do you live here in the A! Does this get on ne one else nerves or is it just me???

I’m from GA born and raised. And even if I were to move somewhere else this is what I would call my home. But for Northerners (transplants)after being somewhere for awhile I can see the dilemma. In my point of view its not too hard to discern who is and isn’t from here. So I guess it is a matter of when you have totally embraced where you are before you will feel totally GA Peach-ish. LOL!
I’ve found that a good amount of Northerners can’t and won’t let that Northern way of doing things, way of life go. Or they are continuously putting down, critcizing GA and its people (i.e. talking slow, calling folks bamas, etc). Its those I have a hard time gripping with their being here. But home is indeed where the heart is. Once you feel have that feeling, no one can take it from you or tell you differently. I do wish we could have some sort of border control now. There are too many dang people living here and thousands are moving in almost daily. As much as I love my city I want to move for a lil bit. I guess see what it feels like somewhere else. Aargh!

the only thing separating you from NJ is miles, Mia. You can feel that sense of home as much as you want. I guess I don’t understand what it means to you, exactly. “reppin your hood”, north vs. south..peach vs. jersey girl…what does it REALLY mean? Are you defined by a zip code? I just don’t get it. Perhaps because I moved around a lot as a kid, I just don’t focus on where my “roots” were growing up. I can’t point to any city or find any house that I can say, “here is where I grew up”…but really, I don’t see that as a negative thing. My roots are with my family, I am who I am because of where I have been, where I am now, and where I intend to go. No zip code will box me into a way of thinking, living, or behaving.

House for Sale in McDonough
A friend sent me info about a home for sale by a soldier who will be deployed to Iraq in July. He desperately wants to sell his 3br/2.5bba/2 car garage home located in the City Square subdivison.
The house has been vacant for 9 months and move in ready. The owner was a single male soldier who rarely lived in the house. If interested, shoot me an email and I will send you the info.

@KIR - what you do with glamour shots is frame them and give them to your boyfriend, so he can hang on his wall, or cube-wall..LOL
But I think we know she(personals) is rarely EVER going to look like that.
@Tray - know what you mean, I was getting gas at my exit, seems the interstate further down had an accident. Black big-rig trucker pulls up, gets out, comes over to me and asks(since I COULD have been driving from Nashville to New Orleans) “You from around here?”. I replied “well, I have lived 6-7 miles from here the past 7 years, a bit of a distinction there”…He just laughed. He was looking for a way around the bottle-neck further down.

Morning Folks
I am with agg wit on this one. I have lived in GA for 8 years and I am still a Baltimorian. Always will be at heart. I love the A but, home is home. As urbanesque as Balitmore is, there is a certain flavor to the city that no other place on the planet has. There is a certain vibe, attitude (good or bad) that is just signature to the city. I can spot someone here and walk up to them and ask what part of Baltimore they are from just by the way they walk, dress or speak. I will always have some West Baltimore in me, no matter where I am. And I will NOT give up my Maryland license.
oh and Mia-those parties are called Northern Exposure.

When people ask where I’m from, I’ve been saying Decatur, since that’s where I live. I don’t automatically say where I was born. Eventhough I was born in Delaware, I’ve lived in several states before coming to GA. At this point, I consider Atlanta home.
Even when I go to those places that I used to live, including Delaware, I don’t feel at home until I am sleeping in my own bed, in the house where I contribute to the bills.
I hope that makes sense.

My first post was somehow deleted, so I’ll try again…
Why would you care about what someone refers to you as in the first place? And who says it does matter where you’re from here in Atlanta or that you have to claim where you’re from?? Do you really feel the need to show your Northernness and let people know that you’re not from here?
I agree with Wise - Home is where the heart is. Don’t ever feel like you must “Do as the Romans” and conform. DO YOU! Remember the saying…You can take a man out of the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of the man. Same thing applies here. Your home will always have a special place in your heart and is an integral part of who you are. No amount of miles can change that.

@Babykitty - You can now consider yourself knowing someone with a Southern accent. ;-)
@CSC - I absolutely loved your post! Sounds a lot like my hometown.
I think being Southern is a state of mind. Every part of the nation has it’s own unique quirks. The perception of folks from different parts of the country are often times born out of ignorance instead of being celebrated as admiration of roots from different places. We moved here from Tennessee and were considered to be Northern. LOL I love Tennessee, always will. I miss the Smokies, but Atlanta is our home and I think it is the greatest place in the world to be. The South does have it’s own charm, when you get past the outskirts of town, life moves slower, but we are all so fortunate to have the best of both worlds. We have the new South and the old South side by side and can enjoy the best of both.

If you haven’t already noticed, I really don’t give a dayum about what other people think about me. I love being my independent, free thinking, tell-it-like-it-is self no matter where I am in the world. So my posts come from that perspective.
Many people assume I’m a Northerner from NY/DC/PA area (I guess I have a Northern vibe), but I am quick to let them know that I’m a Southern Girl from South Cakilaki. Being an Army brat, I have moved around some and have influences from other places. But my caring and friendly personality is definitely Southern.

Okay, get ready to throw darts at me!
My take on the whole northern vs. southern vs. western vs. where ever you’re from is this…
MsAP, as always, you summed it up in your 10:43 post. I luuuv the fact that you always keep it real and it was great meeting you at Compound.
I am a true Georgia Peach and it disturbs me that so many people flock here from other places, to improve their lives, get better jobs, better homes, etc. but don’t give back and complain all the fregin time!
All most transplants do is take, take, take and complain about how slow and country it is down here. This is what P.O’s most natives off about outsiders.
I tell complete strangers all the time, 285, 75, 85 and 20 are never closed, when I hear folks complaining about my city and the people that are from here. After all, we did not move to your cities and if your city is so great, why are you here??
To answer Mia’s question, you can never be an official “Ga Peach” because you were not born and raised, but we can make you an honorary “Ga Peach” How’s that??
Okay, I am through venting, Have a great day folks!

OMG- I am about to agree with S.W.A.T.S to an extent. I have worked with a lot of different transplants to the city and yes when they complain they generalize as to say it’s all Georgians, when a lot of the things they are complaining about vould very well be other transplants. I have to say, I don’t remember traffic problems being so vast when there weren’t so many transplants. Sometimes taking things a little slower works out better in the long run.

I beg to differ with Tha S.W.A.T.S. No man I know from Georgia will ever call himself a Georgia Peach. That term is strictly used from women born and raised in Georgia. As a Georgia Peach, myself, we are never upset, if a norherner(female) uses the term. Because being a GA Peach is very much about the personality, mentality, and attitude as it is about where your from.

@2 can play that game See your attitude is typical of “most” transplants. I am from here, but you know, I give back daily, why, because people haveprovided opportunities to me. This city has provided opportunities for me. If you move somewhere and you are afforded a better life, a better job, etc.
” You are supposed to give back”
Examples: volunteering, mentoring kids, participating in community projects…
You should be blessed that you were afforded a better opportunity and giving back is how you say thanks!
FYI Most of the people who live downtown and in the city are not from here! I can provide some stats if needed!
They are mostly Northerners and folks from out West. Do your homework!

Hey everyone. When I first moved here from Maryland. It took a while to adjust to the southern hospitality. I would travel back to MD and tell stories like the people there are so nice. I was trying to figure out why. Seven years later I think I’m starting to get it. My lady says I still have a bit of my native tongue. May be that is the only part of MD that I’ll never lose. I can totally understand Mia’s dispositon when she states “She’s lost in transition”. When u spend most of ur life in the town/city where u were born it’s an experience to say the least if u decide to spread ur wings & relocate to a diffent place.YES u will socialize,YES u will make friends;some of whom u may even consider ur family eventually, but it’s really not the same. From my experience when I relocated & went home to my apt there was no familiar faces to greet me @ the door,no smell of home cooking (1 xmas I had a turkey sandwich & watched tv until I was tired),no smell of grandma’s bread baking in her outdoor brick oven while homemade jam slowly cooked on the stove,no siblings to fight with,no 1 to know I’m really not alright even though I say I am,no 1 to tell me I’m perfect, when I know in reality I’m far from perfect.Bottom line I feel is if u’re a transplant & feeling the void of family that void is never truly filled until u start a family of ur own.

You got a radio station that is the number 1 staiont in the black community with 2 morons on the lead. You got newscasters who wouldnt know objective journalism if they got 45 hours of training in it. Afternoon all!
When someone asks me where I’m from, I tell them Cleveland, OH. However, Atlanta is my home because as others have said ‘home is where the heart is’. My ‘family’ (friends) are here and it would take a miracle to get me to leave.
What annoys me is when I tell people that I’m from Ohio and the first thing they say is ‘oh really, how’d you end up here?’ Like its such a strange thing to move to Atlanta…
Vince - please man, don’t call yourself a peach…
Oh and from what I see, a lot of transplants give back so I’d like to see your stats on volunteerism - transplants vs. natives.

No matter how most of my fam get on my last nerve sometimes, if I’m away from them at any length there’s something about the familiarity of family or that feeling of comfort that the feeling of ur hometown brings that’s hard to replace.Even now living with Slash I have keys to my mom’s house. She was out of town this past weekend & my son & I spent Sunday there. The house was empty but it felt good to chill in my old room & experience complete freedom, piece of mind & the abiltily to b my true self.

LOL @ agg witt…you guys are killin me today! (whew.. ok)
I can empathize with the lost in translation now, after reading ImpA (wassup chica!)
I just think that life is about changes, and you certainly are meant to experience different things but that doesn’t take away from your background. If it means the world to you to be around your relatives and the house you grew up in, then you should do what it takes to get back to that. Personally, I wouldn’t dwell too much on what I was missing, because you tend to get stuck in a rut with that kind of thought process. Whatever is most important to you, that is what counts at the end of the day.

Morning all,
I wouldn’t say that I ever thought of an object being gender specific, but ain’t no way in heck I would call myself or any guy for that matter a GA Peach!
I’m from Cincinnati, OH but transplanted here about 12 years ago. I graduated high school, and built foundations for lasting friendships right here. Ask me where I’m from and I’ll tell you I was born and raised in the North, but I came into being while I was in the South, so that’s what I rep. I still have northern roots as most of my family resides there still and I love going back to the city, but this is home for me now.

Can I just ask, what difference does it make who came from where, how you give back or who you give back to.
Atlanta is beautiful, cultural, entertaining, and profitable.
We don’t care whether you are from here or somewhere else, just enjoy it while you are here. Go see where MLK grew up, or see the new Matisse exhibit at the High or hit the club up for happy hour on First Friday. It really doesn’t matter where you come from, just enjoy ATLANTA for what it is. And don’t worry about a title because of where you were born or where you moved. That don’t matter in the end. Atlanta wouldn’t be the mecca it is if it weren’t for all the millions of people here - the transplants and locals included.
Next time someone ask “where you from”, just say “my momma, you know her??” an I bet they won’t ask you nuttin else:)

To most native Southerners, where you’re from is important. Finding out where you’re from is their way of getting to know you better and understand your ways. I heard that once Flannery O’Connor was at an LA party where Walker Percy (if I’ve got the story right) was also in attendance, and she said to him, “Do you know what’s wrong with all these people? They’re not from anywhere.” It has to do with a sense of connectedness to the people, and especially, to the land (as Margaret Mitchell made plain in Gone with the Wind).
When people ask me where I’m from, I say I’m from a little town in east Georgia, but I’ve lived in this area (Atlanta metro) for X years, and I consider it to be my home. That tells them what they really want to know.
More later …

I think if you were living in your hometown and and surrounded by outsiders, you would do the same.

I have to agree with SWATs about how transplants (i.e. an individual who was not born and raised in the south) come down here talkin shyt about how backwards thing are here and how up north or where ever they came from is much better. I say take your complaining, traffic causing, rude a$$ home!!! Atlanta is a beautiful city that is being ravaged by transplants who do not appreciated it. I’m a native, female…Georgia Peach if you will or Grady Baby. I found that too many transplant refer to themselves as natives and bring their northern culture down here and ultimately have diluted or in some cases destroyed the Southern way of life… that’s just how i see anyway…. Merely moving down here and acquiring property, real estate, or any kind of residence doesn’t or will not make you a native Southerner or Atlantian i.e. “Georgia Peach”. Hopefully, someday the multitudes of transplants will finally get that concept!

I maybe too late but i had to come out of lurkerville for this one. I’m a native Atlantan(from Decatur to be exact) and I’m a ‘Crawdad’ which means I was born in Crawford Long hospital. Today I don’t refer to myself as a GA Peach because the term has evolved to be associated with females from GA, for the record the saying is if you have been here for more than 5 years then you are now a GA Peach. When i was growing up and before ATL became what it is today and that is a great city, we were proud as guys also to refer ourselves as GA Peaches because this is the Peach State it is no different than someone from The Hoosier State(Indiana) calling themselves Hoosiers or people from Oklahoma calling themselves Sooners. In high school we started calling women who we thought was ‘fine’ Ga Peaches so the term evolved to be associated with only women from GA.

I truly love Atlanta. But I will admit that when I hear natives complain about transplants like they do, it makes me want to take my money and my volunteer time and go somewhere else.
Today I went to the awards program at a local school where I tutor. It was awesome and I was so proud of the kids - I was proud to be a part of that institution. When I moved to Atlanta, I immediately got involved with programs like Junior Achievement and other youth initiatives.
But it appears that a lot of you Grady Babies seem to think that all we do is bring your city down. So much for that southern hospitality making us feel good.
But I’m like 2can, I pay my taxes, work hard and give back - so ultimately I don’t give a flying flip what you think…

First of AJC1975, I never complained about your city - if you will read (which appears to be a problem here) you will see that I said I love this place.
Second of all, I came from a big city - no humble beginnings here. I didn’t have to come here to make money, I was doing well before I came to Atlanta, so for me Atlanta was not the Black mecca - I didn’t need the city. But judging from the way some of your Grady Grandbabies talk, Atlanta needs me. I can’t even begin to talk about how many of these natives’ children can’t form a complete sentence.
I never asked you to pat me on the back, or acknowledge my contributions to your city - I just stated that I don’t appreciate those of you that think all transplants bring your city down.
Like I said, go back and read what I said. You should spend your energy fighting the true enemies because you are barking up the wrong tree.
I can live and thrive in any city I choose - and I choose to live here. I’d be willing to bet that I’ve paid more in property and other taxes to help your beloved town survive than you have!

I know I’m chiming in late - but I have to agree with the other “transplants” who still claim their hometown as “Home”. - I can truly relate to the sentiments conveyed when Stephanie Mills sings “Home” from “The Wiz” (saw her on Broadway in the stage play before Diana did the movie version - still have the record in my collection). I have come to love Atlanta but when I think of the sweet smell of N.Y Pizza, the Village in the summer time (great free comedy show), Shakespeare in the Park, Shopping on Avenue of the Americas, dancing all night a club and leaving to at 7 a.m. to go the closest all-night diner, having access to every form of art imaginable in a few city blocks — phew. There’s nothing like my HOME!! I think everybody has the sense of pride when speaking about their HOMETOWN because in essence that place that raised you up will always be a part of you. It is your life pulse - it’s where you learned your first life lessons and the place you picture in your mind when you need to refer back to the “good ol’ days”. I love where I come from and I know all the “Southern Gents and Georgia Peaches” have a right to feel the same way about their hometown, as well.

oh and there should be no shame that you are a transplant. you have the best of both worlds. i am proud i am a southerner but i am also so very proud that ALL of my family is from NJ. i amy end up living there one day, who knows, i love it that much.
whatever you do, just don’t be fake about it- don’t be a yankee trying to act southern b/c that is just plain irrating. be who you are and forget “labels”
i was born and raised here in GA (26 yrs) and rarely, if ever, call myself a GA Peach. i hold that out for reeeaaallly southern girls.

First of all… you betta sit go your a*s in front of a therapist to figure out why you get so doggone upset about people living in YOUR city.. as if you can really control where folks live. Just because a person doesn’t share you ideas, attitude or beliefs and lifestyle doesn’t mean they don’t DESERVE to be your doggone neighbor
Second of all, YOU don’t know what you are talking with your misguided views…so how about you squash that stereotyping and generalizing and broadstroking and get a frickin clue!
You don’t even understand basic economics clearly because a lot of the money that gets funneled to your great city are from companies that are BROUGHT here and they BRING transplants with them. The companies that are originated in Georgia also contribute to the economy and THAT is the great thing about being a city that draws people here. You have natives and transplants working TOGETHER to make the place better.
Neither of the bloggers said ANYTHING like that mess you just claimed you see in attitudes from transplants. They were offering an opposing views on comments that were posted!
You take that crappy attitude some place else cause I ain’t tryna to hear THAT mess!

And please don’t get me started about how the Atlanta natives are the ones that let the foreigners move in and build liquor stores on every corner. At the community meetings, its the transplants that try to vote that ish down and demand that the proper types of establishments be opened in the cities.
But I’m trying not to go there - and I can’t believe I allowed someone to bring me there.
Like I said, I love the city and I don’t come to complain, but to enjoy all that it has to offer. Do I desire to be called a GA Peach? No, but I expect to be respected as the law-abiding, tax paying citizen that I am.

MsK - Gaelle is on Naked. Her song “Rain” is tight as h3ll.
**Hed Kandi also has some really groovy compilations.
If yall aint hip to Jamiroquai, you betta get up on it. Their albums are a eclectic potpourri of jazz, funk, house, disco, soul, regggae and a lil bit of rock thrown in. Their first joint “Traveling Without Moving” is off the charts!! It stays in my rotation. (Remember the video “Virtual Insanity” with dude singing on the moving walkway?)

Tazzee I love u to pieces honey, but somebody had to give them the license, and the approval to build the store. Yeh we can go to the meetings and make demands. That’s why it’s important to vote. We need to put people in office who will do the right thing. There’s a liquor store right across the street from my girls school. If you ever watch the city council meetings on public television, there’s always this older gentleman who’s at every meeting giving them h3ll about the things that they are approving for the city. He has stated that he’s lived in ATL all of his life and he’s yet to seem them make any real efforts to get some of these stores closed or moved. I never see anyone there backing him up, and sometimes they try to shut him up. We see the same people on the council approving the same things. I have yet to see them approve something than over priced housing for the inner city.

Our school system does suck. I think the reason I faired and the reason my kids fair is because I read a lot as a child, that was my favorite thing to do. I demand that my kids read. I have been to schools where they are having their reading period and the child will massacre the sentence and the teacher will just let them continue as if they read it ok. Granted a lot of this is from home, but don’t just let the kid continue.
On a lighter note, I have relatives in both Columbus and Cleveland.

MissU - you are right, they have to get the license and I fault the elected officials for that - but the community also has a say. What bothers me most about the council meetings is that they have them during the day when the people are working. At the local NPU meetings (which they have at night) the community gets a chance to chime in.
Unfortunately, the older residents are the main ones attending the meetings - so when a ‘convenience store’ is presented with a liquor license, they will vote yes because the man gave a good presentation and they are glad there will be a store nearby. Another thing that kills me is the actual store owners either don’t attend the meetings or sit way in the back - they will get their young African American lawyer in the nice suit to make the presentation.
I don’t fault the older residents, but sometimes someone needs to help them sift through the garbage that’s presented.
The schools are in need, but I think its up to the community to help. My friends and I are thinking of getting together a community partnership with the elementary school near our subdivision. Something where the professionals in the area can help with the school. Because if we wait on the government, the children will never get the quality education they need.

Agg Witt: Oooh, hasn’t you mama ever told you never ask a lady her age??? Let’s just say I’m 30+ & maybe when I said I “grew up” up north, I left NJ before I was COMPLETELY grown (or maybe not! Hee!) if that makes sense. CSC: Good question: Oh, lots of reasons. Finances (lack of), lazyness, depression, that feeling of hopelessness I’d never get out of there. Finally I became so rooted in apathy I just gave up & went through the motions instead of living my life; I was a MESS. Then I met my husband who felt the same was about S. Fla as I did & together we escaped. Tazzee: Of COURSE you’re welcome here, girl! What the #$@^& is this, the Civil War? Now if you read Taz’s posts about the education and lack of education for some of the fine Atlantans, then go back and read your initial rant to her and 2CP, you would see that you made her point. For example… you said “expect us to pat you on the back for doing something your suppose to be doing regardless where you live…i.e. giving back to the community! Please take you self righteous self back to you humble beginnings outside of Atlanta, GA.” Your or properly speaking YOU’RE (you are) having trouble with the yous and yours and you’re(s).
