What’s the Best New Restaurant for 2008 (so far)?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
IS HOLEMAN & FINCH PUBLIC HOUSE YOUR PICK FOR BEST NEW RESTAURANT IN 2008? Photo: Becky Stein/Special to the AJC
The review this week in today’s Living section takes a look at an impressive new restaurant from Jay Swift, formerly of South City Kitchen. He makes his mark subtly, unlike the cooking he did at SCK. You can read the review here.
The opening is truly one of the most memorable for the year. And that’s saying a lot: Parish, Home, Spice Market, Straits, Holeman & Finch Public House, Cakes & Ale and more have all opened this year — and all are impressive standouts in a city that is proving it truly loves its restaurants.
What’s your pick for best new restaurant in 2008?

Whatever it is, let’s just hope it’s actually in Atlanta this year.

The Gridiron Grill 16 N Court Square Newnan, GA
Everything we’ve eaten there has been fantastic! Great service and reasonably priced as well.

Holeman & Finch hands down… food and drinks are top notch. Bigger isn’t always better, unless you like an assembly line of mediocre food.

My favorite this year is Dogwood on Peachtree in midtown. The upscale southern food is delicious. It’s also great to stop in for a drink at the bar after the Fox.

I enjoy Chima Brazilian Steakhouse. Yes the price is moderate but the service and food exceeded my expectations. Great place!

Holeman & Finch, though you really have to be in the industry to fully understand why.

Allegro at the end of Dutch Valley Road off Monroe is hands down the finest new restaurant in the city for 2008.
From fine cuts of meat to a welcome accomodation of vegans and vegetarians, this place has something for everyone.
The porcini mushroom ravioli with truffle sauce was so delicate and tender I have tried 3 times already to describe it to my satisfaction and am now giving up. This is an Italian experience that must not be missed.
L’uomo comune puņ farcire il suo fronte altrove ma l’amante dell’alimento mangia a Allegro.
(The common man may stuff his face elsewhere, but the food lover eats at Allego.)

My friend tells me Allegro opened in late 2007. Well, I didn’t find them until 2008. 2008 would be a great year for everyone to find them too.

Holeman & Finch sucks. The potions are small while the price is high. And the bartenders pour the drinks like it’s coming out of there own personal stash and they don’t want to give an extra drip. Ridiculous - pour a REAL drink or glass of wine.
While the food choices are interesting; expect to spend a lot for a very little. No thanks. I’ll go where they actually understand that liquor is an ingredient in a cocktail.

Dogwood(at Peachtree and Linden in the ground floor of the Reynolds building) just opened a few weeks ago and the food and service are AMAZING!!! The decor is beautiful and has a great wine list too.

Holeman is Finch is fun to visit.Just stopping by for a pig ear and homemade cocktail makes it worth it! I also enjoyed the National in Athens- wonderful food and atmosphere. But if you live north of ATL- you should stop and get some beverages at Little Alley or Pure in Roswell/Alpharetta. That is my OTP tip for the day. Have a wonderful weekend!

The most fun I’ve had in a long time was at Parish the other night, the food is amazing, the drinks are awesome, and the staff is great.
I’m dying to try Fourth & Swift.

I know it is not “really new”, but Steamhouse Lounge now located in Midtown ranks right up there for food and atmosphere!!
