WAS PIEBAR YOUR FAVORITE CONCENTRICS RESTAURANT?

Like most of the nation, I took Friday off to eat hamburgers, drink beer, swim and listen to my boyfriend’s band play some rock-n-roll. Went to see Tom Waits on Saturday night, and his concert was the perfect pick for a 4th weekend, since he is a national treasure. I had never seen him before, and the concert was awesome.
But today it’s back to business, and I’m wondering what the rest of Atlanta thinks of Parish, the Concentrics restaurant I reviewed in Friday’s Living section. Read the review here.
While the food in the upstairs dining room can be hit or miss, Parish’s overall concept is among owner and venerable restaurateur Bob Amick’s best to date. And the market downstairs is almost irresistible with pastries by Jonathan St. Hilaire.
Have you been to Parish? What did you think? Amick has designed a lot of popular restaurants in Atlanta: Trois, Stats, TAP, One Midtown Kitchen, Two Urban Licks, Lobby at Twelve, Room at Twelve, Piebar (closed). What’s your favorite?

The upstairs restaurant was ok. My bread on my Po Boy was perfect but the oysters made my husband sick for 2 days with food poisoning. Though I do not love Abita- I like how they have it on tap to make it have Louisiana feel. The bartender was also wonderful and friendly too! The downstairs is great. Love it and wuill be back.

Parish was a big letdown. I am usually I big fan of Amick’s ventures but when my husband and tried out this new neighborhood locale, we were less than impressed. The sausage trio could have been from the grocery store and two of the three were dried out and overcooked. The oysters made me sick and had very little taste (think they might have been rinsed and lost that good brine-y taste). Gumbo was uninspired. The bread was the only food item that we both enjoyed, actually, and luckily that truly was delicious. I’m hoping that they work out the new restaurant jitters and re-work the menu a bit. If not, I might come back for their version of dark and stormy (jamaican rum & ginger beer cocktail, can’t remember what Parish calls it), but I surely will eat beforehand.
One more thing, what’s the deal with the chalkboard menus to “save paper” but serving the bread in individual paper bags??

The loss of Scott Serpas as chef before Parish opened dealt a blow to the food portion of the operation.
Chef Tim has not brought the goods to this critical part of an operation that is stellar in most every other aspect.
Changes must be made if the Concentrics brand is to continue its status both here as well as (hopefully) nationally.

Pie Bar pizza was not good. I like the bldg though and am looking forward to returning when it opens again hopefully as a new concept.

I was excited to see Parish open in my neighborhood. It is a great concept, and the market and dining room are both comfortable. Unfortunatley, the food has not been good either time I have eaten there. The pastries and specifically the scones are delicious. It is all I can do not to stop in for one on my daily morning walk.
