Do Diners Exist Down South?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Yes, we have Waffle House. And we have our ever-lovin’ meat-n-threes, which can’t be duplicated above the Mason-Dixon Line.
But we don’t have diners.
Wait — we have one: the Marietta Diner on Cobb Parkway. Stepping into this joint is like stopping at an exit on the Jersey Turnpike and finding one of the many diners that dot that roadway. It’s a real yankee-fied diner, dang it. And a real slice of Americana.
That’s what Guy Fieri thought, too. He’s been busy filming in and around Atlanta with his Food Network show, “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” (I mentioned his visit to Cabbagetown Market on and earlier blog post). Now, he’s been out to Marietta, and his diner of choice is just a few “blocks” down from the Big Chicken. Apparently, Guy feels that the Marietta Diner is the “real deal, Holyfield.”
The diner is owned by Gus Tselios, who drove down from New York to open it 14 years ago. Since Gus and his family are Greek, the menu offers goodies like “spinach pie” and baklava cheese cake, plus American classics like black-and-white cookies and burgers. Like a true diner, it’s open 24/7.
According to Tselios, the first showing of the episode was last Monday, but more shows are scheduled through April. Go to Food Network.
Is there a diner in your neck of the woods? If so, let me know about it. I’m dying for some fries with gravy.

Great place to eat.Large variety of food. Big problem passing up the dessert display cases - I can gain weight just looking at the choices. Particularly like the Greek dishes and the lamb dishes.

What is Mary Macs, or The Majestic, or The Silver Skillet, if not diners? What is it with you disgruntled yankees? If you can’t stand being in the South, go home! To hear you, southerners can’t drive, don’t know what or where to eat, dress, talk, panic and buy bread at the 1st snow flake, etc etc. Get over it! At least the women down here are way better looking, I guess because there are no diners where they can get fatted up at. Yuk Yuk!

This diner has been there for years but ITP snobs like Tom above wouldn’t know about it because it’s “way OTP”. Grow up, kid.

We’ve been fans of the Gwinnett Diner (near Gwinnett Place Mall) for years. Whether we’re craving fries and gravy, matzo ball soup, or the perfect Reuben, they deliver the goods.

Hubby just tells me I’ve goofed up again. The diner we love near Gwinnett Place Mall is GEORGIA DINER.
Gwinnett Diner is the tiny spot in Lawrenceville that was featured in the movie Road Trip. Ewwwww.

MY FRIEND WE YANKEES ARE NOT DIGRUNTLED WE ARE BRUTALLY HONEST AND SEEMS THAT YOU ARE UPSET ABOUT OUR CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISISM. WHEN WE SAY THERE ARE NOT MANY DINERS BECAUSE THERE IS ONE EVERY FEW BLOCKS. AS REGARDS THE DRIVING TRAFFIC USUALLY COMES TO A HALT WHEN IT RAINS SO DO I NEED TO GET INTO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT SNOWS.AS REGARD THE OTHER COMMENTS HAD YOU BEEN TO NYC YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND ON A LIGHTER NOTE WE IN NY HAVE OUR CRAMPED APARTMENTS, WHICH SUBWAY IS GONNA BE DIVERTED OR CANCELLEDD AND PARKING TICKETS AMONGST OTHER THING. ONE’S FIRST LOVE AND HOME ARE ALWAYS SPECIAL SO NOTHING ELSE WILL COME CLOSE THAT WHY WE COMPLAIN AND YOU CANNOT HANLE IT I UNDERSTAND GEORGIA IS JUST AS SPECIAL TO YOU NY IS TO ME

BB’s Bagels & Diner, McFarland Road in Alpharetta. Very friendly and best bagels outside of NYC. Also love the tuna salad.

All you diner experts, can you help me find a diner ITP that has pies? I can’t find good old apple pie, peach pie, blueberry pie anywhere. I just want a slice of pie and some vanilla ice cream. Why is that so hard to find? Don’t say Landmark. They have great desserts but no pie.

Would you believe God just blessed Macon GA with the MACON DINER!
I’ve been gone from New Jersey for over 25 years. I didn’t think I’d live to see the day. Thank you, God!
