Today’s Special Is…..?

It’s Tuesday. Anyone living in or around Decatur knows that Tuesday night is fried chicken night at Watershed. Scott Peacock doesn’t offer his slightly crunchy, slightly salty take on one of the South’s iconic dishes any other night of the week — only Tuesday.

Weekly specials are a great idea, actually. From a marketing stand point, they generate interest during a time of the week when folks might opt to stay home. Of course, the kitchen has notoriously based week-day specials on what’s left over from the busy weekend. It’s a way to utilize what would otherwise go to waste.

We’re looking for weekly specials in your area. Does your favorite watering hole have a Wednesday night bleu cheese burger that kicks booty? Does your neighborhood joint cook up a mean coq au vin? Where are the best week-day specials?

(I just love the folks who come to the dining out blog and never bring anything to say except what great home cooks they are.)

Meridith - if you find a great neighborhood coq au vin, pass the info along!

I think weekly specials are fantastic - especially when the weekly special is a seasonal item, not just re-purposed leftovers from the weekend before (although that has its good points, too).

I don’t have any favorites but I’m interested to see who posts what - and in trying them out.

It’s just like people who don’t have kids, blogging on Momania……

I too am a good cook, and I very rarely dine out. The portions are huge, and it’s expensive. Going out to eat to me is going over to friends’ houses and we all cook together.

I have to agree with Rodney regarding the “home cooks” that always blog when the topic is eating out somewhere. I’m a great cook but love finding new restaurants to eat at….especially since I’m new to the Atlanta area. As for the portions, I ask for a to-go box at the beginning of my meal, split it and take it home to eat at lunch the next day. As a former fattie (no insult meant to anyone) I learned to do that a while ago….plus, I get two, sometimes three meals for the price of one!

For those of you amused by the latest uptake of “southern” cuisine and in search of real southern fried chicken, try Son’s Place right next to the Marta Inman Park station. No buttermilk batter and goop like that. Deacon would be proud.

I love the self-appointed “blog police” who worry about what others are posting. Is there a requirement to post on any blog? HE!! NO!!! So stick to your own opinions, and don’t concern yourself with others!! This is the land of free speech, after all!!! Don’t be mad because you can’t cook and have to eat out………….don’t hate the playa, hate the game. As JJ said, it’s just like folks blogging on Momania who don’t have kids. Or folks blogging about sports that don’t even watch them. Oh well, get over it!

One, JJ, et al. - I don’t like wasting my time weeding through non-topic posts, that’s all.

By the way, ex-Johnson & Wales student here … so much for your theory that I’m “mad because (I) can’t cook and have to eat out … “.

I didn’t know the YMCA and YWCA had restaurants. They are both such wonderful organizations that I would love to give them my business. What are their specials?

Dick,

I believe there are some establishments on Piedmont road that offer what you’re looking for.
