In the mood for fondue? Where do you go?

Fondue, the Swiss custom of dipping morsels in boiling hot sauces — especially cheese or chocolate — has bubbled up from time to time in the U.S. Hardly a wedding was complete in the Sixties without at least three gift fondue pots for the happy couple. Dante’s Down the Hatch made fondue part of the fine dining experience of the original Underground Atlanta, and kept the home Sterno burning after moving to Buckhead. (Owner Dante Stephensen is not Swiss, but Danish ancestry puts him pretty close.) See our latest In the Mood for a look at Dante’s and some other Atlanta restaurants offering fondue as a main attraction.

At home - any “restaurant” that offers fondue is overpriced. You’re cooking your own food for heaven’s sake! Why should they charge you the same price as a fine restaurant?

Save your money and buy a couple of fondue sets for home. We’ve had ours since our first anniversary 32 years ago and they work just as well as then.

You can get a meal most anywhere, Dante’s is a dinning experience. It is the atmosphere, the incredible setting, the quality of service, and the dedication of the entire staff to provide more than just food. Yes it is a little on the expensive side but it is all of the attributes mentioned above that make it worth the trip.

We’re fans of The Melting Pot - even got engaged there! It’s pricey but the service and experience is worth the splurge from time to time. We have done fondue at home and it just wasn’t as fun.

love the melting pot. the service is great and the specialty menus are fun. i’m a member of their club fondue and they send out coupons for stuff every so often and for special occasions. they are also community conscious and have fundraisers for various local charities. if money and calories were not an issue, i would eat there much more often.

I moved to Atlanta in November 2006 from Charleston and we had this awesome fondue restaurant called Fonduely Yours it is in Mt Pleasant I miss it so much. Just recently we went to the Melting Pot for my birthday and you are right it is expensive but it was really good and we will only be there for holidays or special events.
