Who’s Dieting? I Want a Burger

Love the EARL. Love the Vortex. Manuel’s is pretty good if you’ve got a hankerin’. The Ghetto burger rocks, but only if you have a half-day to spend waiting on it. Shaun’s burger is outrageous. Love the Burger slider at STATS. Heck, I even like the burger at Chili’s when in a very tight pinch and have a hangover.

Where’s your favorite burger?

Anybody been to the Beef O Brady’s in Grayson to try a Wack a Burger?

Vortex wins hands down. Fudds still has a good burger OTP. However I tend to want a burger at 8AM (I hate breakfast food), and Steak n Shake will work to curb that.

The greasy “In and Out” cheeseburger is the best i’ve had, but that’s in Alachua, FL. with a pineapple milkshake.

The most memorable burger I ever had out was way back in 1980 at a little place called Lindbergh Landing, located behind the old Harvest Moon Saloon at Piedmont at Lindbergh. Sadly, it closed soon after I discoverd it, due to the new Marta construction. The first thing I noticed when I went in the place was the bag of charcoal next to the grill. It was really delicious and had it stayed open, it likely would have replaced the Brandy House as my favorite burger in town. Of course now the Brandy House is closed adn that was an end of an era for me personally. But since then, I have found that the Colonnade cooks up a burger that makes me swallow my toungue. There was also a place across the street from it named Roxx that had a real good one, too. But I don’t know if it’s still open. At Christmas I was traveling and had a first class burger at Lone Star Steaks. But overall, I would have to give my top honor to the Prime Burger at Ruby Tuesday.

I forgot to mention that the Bucket Shop does carry on the Brandy House Bucket Burger tradition, but the ultra smoky bar that you have to pass through is a major deterrent to eating there.

5 guys has some of the best burgers in my opinion and the artery clogging fries are the topper. Stuffed like a pepper after eating there.

I have to say The Vortex. Part of it is that it’s just plain good but part of it is because I can walk there.

I hate to say this…but I’ve never found better fries than at McDonald’s. Their burgers are blah but those fries…

In-N-Out Burger is the best burger hands down. It’s also the most affordable. But you can’t get In-n-Out in Atlanta so the award goes to another CA institution: FATBURGER

There is only one in Atlanta, on Sidney Marcus but I see they are building a 2nd location in Cobb off of Windy Hill. Yay!

Have to go with the Vortex..Have only tired 5 Guys once & wasn’t impressed with it at all..Jen, you are so right about the fries at McDonalds..When you get them fresh out of the fryer & salted, you can’t get any better..Will have to try FATBURGER when it opens on Windy Hill..

A burger is really only gladly paid 4 on a Tuesday.

I had a big mac in Augusta in 1990 which by some miracle was the best hamburger I ever had. It was a freak accident, of course, but there it is.

The problem with burgers getting so elaborate and expensive is that why dont you just have a steak and forget the whole thing?

When I want a real hamburger, not fast food, I head to the Derby in Sugar Hill!!!! Best burger in town.

I haven’t tried 5 guys yet, but will this weekend!!! The one at Suwanee Town Center smells wonderful, and I almost went in there Tuesday night after I walked the dogs at the park………

Five Guys makes me sick every time I try to eat there, Fuddruckers is gross….the Vortex and In-N-Out are both great. The Longhorn Steakhouse in Woodstock has really good burgers as does this little hole in the wall called Burger Inn. But for a really great burger, nothing beats one you cook yourself on the grill!!!

I’m with Anne here regarding the home GRILLED burger being the best. 5 Guys, Fatburger, In-N-Out and the like are nothing more than glorified fast food joints. Don’t get me wrong, they are tasty. But again like Anne, I did suffer some discomfort from 5 Guys. I think it was the onions because my second visit didn’t include them.

R.Thomas’ Veggie Burger - Outstanding. Or anybody’s veggie burger, portabello burger or similar. Certainly no reason to kill an innocent animal just to get a delicious meal.

Got to dive over to Athens for the best burger….Try “Clocked” on Washington St. and you’ll never want a burger from any other joint. (Just a few doors up from the 40 Watt Club.)

I’m still a big fan of Red Robin, though the only two in the area are out near Lawrenceville at the Avenue Webb Gin, and in Newnan. Yes, they have topping gimmicks (admittedly tasty gimmicks), but the basic burger is still grilled up right.

Sadly, I’m not aware of a GREAT burger place in Atlanta…Vortex is good, but not great. But if you’re ever in Athens you have GOT to go to the Grill, downtown, right off Broad. I highly recommend the 7 Pepper Burger…and you have got to have the fries and feta cheese dressing !! Well worth the road trip !

I agree with whoever said 5 Guys is overated. That goes for The Vortex as well. Miss Ann’s is pretty great. Yes, you do have to wait. But, just go at a time when it’s not so busy. If you want a burger and are in a rush there are plenty of places for that. There’s only enough room for the stools at the counter and she makes every order fresh. It’s not a place where they have an assembly line of hour old burgers waiting for the lunch rush. If you want that, then go to a chain. I’ve never spent more than 45 mins waiting to be served and out the door, but I’m a patient person and am willing to go back at another time if it’s going to be longer than that. Miss Ann belives in quality which is why she hand makes everything to her standards. That’s a good thing I’m willing to wait for.

Garrison’s in Vinings has the best burger around. Cooked to order. Vickerys used to be the best but they have gone downhill.

toni, not everyone that eats a great burger is fat or broke. I have a coworker that eats like a horse & she’s a size one..Yes, it might “catch” up with her one day, but she does have 5 adult children already..

If you’re ever in NC, try “Cookout” —(it might be in other states-that i’m not sure about), it is more on the fast food side, and it is a chain, but that being said it’s still very delicious—-you walk up to little building and order (no inside seating) only outside tables. Everything is fresh off the grill. Mmm Mmm good.

Either list your favorite burger, toni or shut up. It took a trip to Cali, but for me, I’d have to say In-N-Out. I hope we get one in Atlanta soon.

Alpha Drugs in Alpharetta back in the 60’s and 70’s had the best Hamburgers and Hotdogs around.I can still remember getting a Hamburger, fries and a full milk shake in those very large stainless containers enough to fill the tall glass twice. Those were the DAYS!

As a Cali guy, I get the whole In n Out craze and Fatburger beats 5 guys for sure. In Atlanta you can’t go wrong at the Treehouse, Vortex and my favorite US CAFE.. Outstanding Turkey and Beef burgers. Cut by hand, all fresh ingredients, no freezers and great hand made wings. place is always jammed. great 08 yall..

Fast Food Burger Chain: WHATABURGER (24 hour burger joint mainly in TX and LA)!! Lord we need one in GA to compete with that god-awful Krystals.

“Upscale” (LOL) Burger Dining: Fatburger on Sidney Marcus

I refuse to eat burgers at any place other than a burger establishment. IMO it is an insult to the “other” foods to go to a “restaurant” and order a burger.

Wow, I cannot believe that in all the comments so far, I haven’t seen a single reference made to In-N-Out Burger! But, then, this IS the South, and In-N-Out is a SoCal institution, so it probably isn’t known here in GA. But, that being said, In-N-Out’s Double Double is the best!
