Krispy Kreme drops trans fats
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Krispy Kreme announced Monday that it has dropped trans fats from its menu. That means its doughnuts and other foods and beverages contain less than a half-gram of trans fats.
But the original glazed doughnut is still a 200-calorie indulgence of white flour, sugar and fat, deep-fried in a blend of vegetable oil and palm oil that’s higher in saturated fats than the previous formula.
The bottom line: An original glazed doughnut still contains 200 calories and 12 grams of total fat. It now has 6 grams of bad fats (all saturated) rather than the 7 grams of saturated and trans fats that it had before.
The doughnut hounds in the newsroom didn’t notice any change in taste, although, of course, they complained that they were sampling cold doughnuts instead of hot ones. (It’s the first formula change for the original glazed since the ’80s.)
Does removing trans fats from Krispy Kreme doughnuts affect whether you’ll eat them? How about in other restaurant foods, like French fries?

If the taste hasn’t changed then no, absolutely not.
And I feel that way about any other food, too - if you can make it healthier and not skimp on taste, I’m all for it. I might even pay a small premium (SMALL PREMIUM) for a healthier, still-as-tasty-as-before snack.

Got a box Sunday morning and we noticed a different taste. We even commented that they were drier and didn’t taste as fresh. We surmised that they must have dropped the trans fat because they just were not the same. Same goes for Dunkin Doughnuts. They stink now that trans fat is gone.

It’s not a problem for us who “TREAT” ourselves a couple of times of year. It’s the people who eat 2-3 a day 4-5 times a week. That’s the problem. White flour, sugar, deep fried. ought to have a skull and cross bones on the box.

Its all marketing hype. There is no way that KK can be considered part of a healthy diet.

JB, step away from the “post” button!!!
I haven’t had any in a while, but if there’s a difference in taste, I’ll know!! And I will be disappointed!!

Sugar is the real culprit in our diets. Look at products with high fructose corn syrup. It’s in EVERYTHING, and it’s terrible for you. It’s digested differently then glucose (sugar).
Donuts should be eating sparingly. Removing trans fats is good but the that’s like taking one poison out of a product that has 3 other poisons in it…it’s still going to hurt you.

The no trans fat will not change my mind — I will not eat them period. six grams of saturated fat in one donut — this is more saturated fat than I eat in an average day.
There ought to be a tax on these donuts to help pay for the bypass operations and angioplasty that Medicare will have to cover, not to mention long term care for disabled stroke victims.
My father-in-law had a triple bypass operation ten years ago. Just recently, he found out one of the new bypassed arteries is blocked. Of course, he was eating potato chips on the couch after this. Our tax money at work. Should I mention he’s a big Republican and Clinton-hater. That’s the party of personal responsibility isn’t it?

Consuming Any Amounts of Trans Fat is Still an artery Clogger! Saturated Fats are better, they still allow the body to make the good cholesterol in your body where as Trans Fats Dont! Do your home work America.

Steve,
What are you, an Atkins guy? Sure, sugar is not good, either, but, it is not the sole culprit. The health claims made by the Atkins organization have been debunked by the American Heart Association.

I agree with the people at the office…the only good KKD is a HOT one. That said, I am not eating KKDs or DnD either one….I eat them maybe twice a year tops….then it’s usually DnD.

ENOUGH ALREADY I am sick and tired of the health nazis getting their way in everything I eat. Give me the days of 5 years ago when you could clog your arteries with KFC chicken and McDonalds French fries. I want to go out loaded with enough fat in my body to hunted down by Japanese whaling fleet. Don’t mess with my doughnuts or I’ll eat chicken skins forever.

Ever notice how if you leave a Krispy Kreme laying around on something white… that the white object turns green where the donut was?

I’m with dougmo, stop mesing with the food, if you don’t like how unhealthy it is, don’t eat it. I think it was completely wrong and a violation of civil rights that NY banned using trans fat in the food. Who is the govt. to decide if what we eat is healthy or not. If they want to ban everything ‘unhealthy’ shut down every fast food place except Subway, make cigarettes and beer and alcohol illegal…the list could go on and on. It’s a bunch of B.S., and i think someone should challenge that law and sue the state.
It’s unconstitutional for the government to ban what we want to eat!!

Tray, the government has to control everything we do. If they didn’t regulate what we eat, smoke and drink then we’d all die early and they couldn’t make a profit off our paycheck every week. God knows, they have to keep us all living until 65 so they can rob us all blind.

I am going to perform an experiment. I will buy a half dozen Krispy Kremes, eat five of them and let the other one sit on a white paper towel overnight. Then I will know the answer to the question!
By leave my KKs alone

Ridiculous. If someone is health conscious and doesn’t want to eat KKs them let ‘em eat something without trans fat. Don’t be messin’ with my KKs or my Oreos. If you don’t like it, eat something else. But then, I’m not a frequent consumer of these types of foods so my opinion shouldn’t count. And yes, if they taste the same I’ll still have my one or two a year.
By DD changed too?

Oh, has DD changed their formula too? No wonder it tasted so bad last time I ate one. Never liked them that much anyway - too doughy and never enough icing.

Jessica, you are an idiot… the box is green and white, so when you leave a fried doughnut on it overnight, the oil seeps through and you see the bleedthrough from the box, not from the doughnut.

No!!!!! For the love of god, say it ain’t so!!!! BLARGH it ALL, y’all! I could take them messing with fried chicken and french fries, but messing with Krispy Kreme is darn near sacrilege!!
But, yeah. I agree with a lot of y’all up above. I stay at 5’5”, ~ 115 pounds by exercising a good bit and eating Krispy Kreme whenever I want, because I don’t pig out on it every day. It’s an occasional treat like with JB McMultipost ;) , and my cholesterol and all those other levels are fine. I admit that I haven’t had Krispy Kreme in quite some time, and now I’m almost afraid to. Thanks a LOT guys — why can’t companies leave well enough alone?
Thank goodness Burger King hasn’t followed suit. The day they market their Angus goodness to soccer moms with skim lattes I’m totally giving up on American food in general.
Signed, An all-American girl who likes her fruits and veggies, but loves her some beefy stuff and some deep fried goodness, too!

Not as good. Stopped in Saturday to pick up a dozen “hot ones’, the hot sign was on. Was told that they were not making donuts at the store location anymore, that they were coming from the commissary and were only being warmed and glazed at each location. If I want warmed up donuts I can go to a convenience store. That just sucks!!! Another tradition falls by the wayside. Won’t be going back!!!!

Cowards. You may have gained 3 wacko customers who never bought anything but you lost one long-term customer who has has eaten 100x what these wimps have, if they have eaten any—assuming they have eaten at KK. I just sold your stock.

Chuck E …That happened to me LAST NIGHT!!!! I called back to the store, even, and they told me the same thing!! They no longer make the doughnuts there, they only glaze ‘em—and that was minimal. The KK Hot are NOT what they used to be. This method will NOT work. I wrote KK Corporate today and complained. How timely for this pieceblog to appear.

You can’t expect the product not to have the same taste if you change the grease! We love Krispy Kream. You may just have some control over how many of the YOU EAT! Stop screwing around with good food because people can’t control themselves.
