What’s Your Favorite of 2007?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Lots of new spots opened in 2007 — Shaun’s (technically opened in 2006, but reviewed in 2007), JCT Kitchen, Trois (see what I just said about Shaun’s), Posh, Lola, MF Buckhead, Tamarind Thai, Palomilla’s, Bistro VG, Room, Stats, TAP, FAB — and that’s the short list.
What’s your favorite new restaurant for 2007?

I gotta say that I really like TAP. Their food is hit or miss, but the service and atmosphere are unbeatable.

I had two memorable meals in 2007: Joel and Repast. Unfortunately, most of the new restaurants that I tried in 2007 were very expensive and average. The hype of the review did not match my experience.

Based on how I thought the food was (and isn’t that really the most important aspect of dining out), Shaun’s wins.
Trois is fun and hip and the food is tasty, but for me it’s more about design (and some fabulous cocktails) than a clear focus on the food.
Ate at Lola w/in the past month and had a great lunch - and the spot is cool but parking is a mess right now until construction is complete.
But I think overall, the winner is Shaun’s for me.

Two favorites for me: Carpe Diem in Decatur and La Grotto in Buckhead. The former has a tasty variety of novelle dishes, including a tapas menu when you are not really hungry, (with no weak dishes out of the many I have had) and eclectic trappings; the latter is still top of the line going into the second generation of management -both superb food and elegant atmosphere are for that special night and/or someone.

Pure in Alpharetta is a little piece of Virginia Highlands north of the Perimeter. Their tacos and sauces are original and delicious.

I can’t get to those fancy joints, my wife just won’t have it. We can’t afford it anyway. My favorites were The BrickStone Pub and Allessio’s Pizza. I also liked the pimento cheese at Luckie St. Cafe that you recommended.
My wife likes, Nothing but Noodles and Meehan’s Nacho’s in Sandy Springs! Yummm.
