Does Atlanta Have Portuguese Restaurants?

Having lived in southern New England for over 15 years, I never thought I’d miss Italian and Portuguese foods. I thought I’d had my life’s fill of clams and caldo verde.

What I’d give for a dishful of bacalhau or arroz de marisco.

Where is Portuguese in Atlanta?

Meredith, my wife is from near Porto, and we have scoured the area for a Portuguese restaurant. Right now, I don’t know of one, but here are two options: 1) there is a place called Olympic Gyro & Kabob. It is on Winters Chapel Rd near Peeler Rd. and is Portuguese owned. They make Portuguese cuisine off the menu if you ask for it in advance. The Caldo Verde is unbelievable, they make a good Bacalau a Gomes da Sa and Bolinhas do Bacalau. 2) Sabores do Portugal is a small café in Sandy Springs on the west side of Roswell Rd north of Northridge Rd. This is a good place for picking up some Chorizo, Presunto, Cheeses and he can make a pretty good pastry called Pasteis de Nata (the egg custard pastry). They even have some Portuguese olive oil, fruit drinks and other things for sale. Enjoy.
