Bam! Food Network cancels “Emeril Live”

When the Food Network moved “Emeril Live” from 8 p.m. to 7 p.m. earlier this year, that was a tipoff that the Louisiana chef was being kicked down a notch.

Now it’s official. The network has canceled “Emeril Live,” and production stops on Dec. 11. (New episodes will air in 2008 and you’ll still be able to catch reruns.) Emeril Lagasse will continue producing “Essence of Emeril” for the Food Network. (Read Emeril’s message to fans here.)

The change seems like a good time to talk about what it means to be a Food Network star. Emeril was its first, complete with a string of cookbooks, licensing deals and single-name status. Now there are many others: Rachel Ray, Paula Deen, Giada De Laurentiis, Alton Brown.

Do you watch Food Network to be entertained, or to learn more about cooking? Who’s overexposed? Who teaches you the most?

Alton Brown is the MAN! (with a plan, for Flan?) He teaches cooking as science, as well as good eats. I have learned more from him than anyone else on Food Network, and my cooking has improved immeasurably as well.

I watch to learn about cooking 1st, entertainment second. I just hope that FTV doesn’t go the way of the music channels and other niche channels that focus on entertainment and not the original reason for the channel. (Anyone seen a music video on VH1 or MTV lately?)

Rachel Ray is WAY overexposed. How many times is she on every day? My wife and I usually change the channel when she’s on. It’s not that we don’t like her; we watched her often when she first started. But now we just want to get away from her! Paula Deen is heading that way too. I like her, but they need to back off a bit.

I like Alton Brown, and I really miss Molto Mario. They present more than just cooking shows. I like Guy from Guy’s Big Bite and Diner’s, Drive-In’s and Dives. He’s fresh. I like Giada, Tyler Florence, The Barefoot Contessa, Robert from Dinner Impossible. You really learn something with these guys, and they’re entertaining. But above all, Bobby Flay is “THE MAN”. I didn’t like him at first, but I’ve come to realize just how tallented he is. I’ll watch his show anytime.

I’m with Tom on this AB ROCKS!! I have learned a ton from watching him and picked up a lot of good info from most of the regulars. I don’t like the challenge shows and only watch ICA on rare occassion. So I find that I get the entertainment aspect from the real cooking shows.

I also do like Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and dinner imposible though…

I watch it once in a while to watch when nothing else is on. Picked up quite a few easy and good ideas. But the best cook right now? Paula Dean! Talk about a cougar. Oh, my!

After reading the news about Emeril Live going off the air I have decided to never watch the food network again. Taking a show like Emeril live, which was the best show on the food network off the air is a crime. But an even bigger crime is leaving shows like Paula Deen and her sons, and shows like Ace of Cakes on the air. I can only imagine that the people at the food network are trying to make everything fit into a budget or have no brains. I will start a nationwide petition supporting Emeril Live and make sure the people who watch the food network start watching something different.

I love Semi homade with Sandra, and Barefoot Contessa with Ina Garten. I have learned alot from Barefoot contessa, and have tried numerous recipies of hers.

I don’t care for Rachael Ray, her voice bothers me. Once in a while I watch Paula Dean, but her food is very fattening. She starts everything with “a stick of butta”.

Alton Brown is very entertaining. I used to not like him, but I enjoy him now. Giada annoys me, she seem too arragant.

I simply cannot stand Bobby Flay. I will turn the tv off when he comes on. He thinks he is the best cook ever. Annoying.

I totally agree that Alton Brown is the best. I have a college degree in foods & nutrition and this guy really teaches you how to COOK. You can get recipes ANYWHERE — and some of them stink, though, like they haven’t really been tested, as many of you prolly know. ;-)

Ill miss Emeril Live. Why not take off a disaster of a host, like Paula Deen? She makes me sick with her poor hygiene habits in the kitchen. You dont lick or taste every single thing then put the same spoons back in. Its appalling that she is still allowed to be a host.

Emeril really started getting on my nerves a year or so back when he had to “BAM” everything, talk down to his audience when referring to the knobs on the stove and that he was the only one on the Food Network that “really cooked”. I’d much rather watch others that don’t talk down or act as if they are THE REASON that the Food Network is surviving.

I USE TO WATCH EMERIL ALL THE TIME, THEN IT SEEMED HE WAS INCHARGE OF PAYING ALL THE BILLS BY MEANS OF COMMERICALS. I ALWAYS WANTED TO TIME THE COOKING TIME VS. ADVERT. TIME.BAM BAM DON’T GO AWAY MADE.

Alton Brown, as has been said, is AMAZING.

Primary show I watch on Food is ICA and its derivatives (the Next Iron Chef mini was AMAZING… came down to the exact two that I wanted to win, and I’m glad Symon is an Iron Chef now).

Not such a fan of the ICA battles where they bring in the other Food Network personalities (the Flay-De Laurentis/Batali-Ray battle was mildly amusing, but even that was too much exposure to Ray for me!, and the Cora-Deen / Florence-Richard battle seems decent - at least that one introduced me to two guys I may very well start watching!)

Flay is cool, in a cocky son of a gun way. His main problem may be too many shows.

Alton Brown has by far the best show on FoodTV, Good Eats has helped my cooking more than any course or book ever did. Bobby Flay ia both entertaining and informative. Rachel Ray and Paula Dean are WWWAAAAYYYY overexposed. I am very southern and believe Paula’s accent is greatly exaggerated and very distracting and Ms. Ray’s reactions are totally predictable and apprently staged and insincere.

Diners & Dives and Unwrapped are entertaining and Sugar Rush was a great show.

I’m a huge fan of the Food Network and the best there is Ian Garten - The Barefoot Contessa! She is great!. The epitome of delicious food served with classic elegance. You do not see her overexposed on the Food Network like some of the others but she offers class and the most understated sophistication of all the series. Ina seems like a very sweet person and one who makes her guests feel welcomed, appreciated and comforted. I think Racheal Ray gets too much bad criticism. She seems sincerely nice and is just an enthusiastic person who seems to love people and cooking. Paula Deen seems also the same. I for one love seeing the cooking show hosts enjoying what they do and making us enjoy it with them. Giada De Laurentiis is also good but I get the sense she is not as sincere a people person. Unlike Paula and Rachael who worked their way up from humble beginnings, one gets the sense that Giada has never had to work too hard at getting anything she has and is just very privileged. But we appreciate them all.

I’ve catered many parties but have learned so much from Alton Brown! He not only tells you how to cook something, he gives the reasons why things are the way they are. I don’t like cooking shows that tell me only what to do, I feel like I’m being talked down to but he brings me into the kitchen and explains thing. I hope FTV never takes him off the air!

I watch to learn and to be entertained…..Paula is lovely but way overexposed, as is Rachael, Bobby, can the Barefoot Contessa be cancelled PLEASE!

I think Alton avoids this trap because he is far more educational than flashy or chefy…….Alton is to FoodNetwork what Mr. Rogers was to PBS.

I just happen to know Emeril persnoally. he is good friends with Chef Sam Choy from Hawaii and I have been a friend of Sam’s since ‘85. I was a guest on Emeril Live last November. It is a great show and he has the most wonderful staff. I hate to see those people out of work. Emeril has alot of other things going on so don’t fret about him. He will be fine.

I used to be a big fan of Emeril Live but it got old (IMHO) after a couple of years. I feel the exact same way about 30 Minute Meals. I do like Essence of Emeril. I love Paula’s Home Cooking but I have never been a fan of Paula’s Party. I love all of the male hosts except Dan & Steve (1st Food Network Star Winners). I like Semi Homemade but not Sandra Lee because I think she and Giada are phony. I wish they would bring back Food 911 and How to Boil Water (although I preferred Chef Fredric to Tyler Florence).

I agree with the posters who say that Rachel Ray is definitely the most overexposed and Paula is getting there. I love Paula because I think she is the most genuine but I hate the fact that she has dogs roaming all through the kitchen while she’s cooking. I’ve also noticed that she licks her finger while cooking, too. I guess they are trying to give her show a genuine “at home” feel but I still think it’s unsanitary.

Love you Emeril!! I only hope we will not be subjected to another food type reality show!! Hey Food Network- we the fans made you popular, don’t forget us! Please do not take Ina Garten, Tyler Florence, or Bobby Flay away. Giada can stay but please tell her not to show so much cleavage—it is unprofessional!! She is too talented to look trashy!

I’m stunned that Emeril lasted as long as he did. I know I was never able to watch an entire show of his. He’s just too full of himself. His condescending attitude and arrogance finally caught up with him and got him canned. I can’t imagine anyone will miss his show. I know that the first thought that always popped into my head as I surfed past his show was that someone needs to tell him to stand up straight.

Alton Brown, on the other hand is fantastic! His show is fun and informative all at the same time. It’s refreshing to have a show where you learn a little science, a little history and how to cook, not just how to put a particular recipe together. My 9 year old loves Good Eats. It’s definitely gotten him interested in cooking.

Specifically in answer to the question of whether I watch to be entertained or to learn about cooking - Alton Brown makes it so you don’t have to make that choice. He entertains and teaches! :) He certainly teaches the most, too.

Although it’s not a cooking show, my family also enjoy watching Unwrapped.

Rachel Ray is overexposed. I used to watch 30 Minute Meals, but there is a limit to how much perkiness I can take. I know she has other shows, but I’ve never seen a compelling reason to watch any of them.

I can’t put my finger on what it is, but something bothers me about Giada. Maybe it’s the constant close ups on her faked smiles, the way she talks (almost condescending) or other mannerisms, but her show is one I won’t watch.

Some of the american greats like Jacque Pepin, Julia Child, Charlie Trotter, Anthony Bourdain ETC. Are the ones worth talking about to me Emiril is a movie star not achef way to go FOOD NETWORK could we get rid of BOBBY FLAY next still have not forgiven him for jumping on the table top yet these movie star need to learn respect

Cancelling Emeril Live in my opinopn is a bad corporate move, He made Food Network before their was anyone elase on the show, You take him off but leave shows like diners and dives on and Paula Dean and her goofy boys that contribute nothing to the show. I will still watch AB and Bobby Flay but that is about it, it would be different if Emeril would have decided to go off air but he didn’t. guess there is no loyalty at the Food Network office, all about the bottom line, and even that ..I can not beoeive Emeril Live didn’t bring in the audience still today after 10 years. I live in Las Vegas and eat at one of his resturants every now and then, I am sure his cancellation will not hurt him as much as Food Network

I was wondering when this would happen. I appreciate his effort, creativity and entertaining the crowd, but the show was very little about how to actually cook the food. He’d mention what he did and move on without showing me how to do it.

Alton Brown is the reason I cook. My wife calls it a man-crush, but I am kept interested and informed every time. I rarely deviate from his techniques and recipes and the food is wonderful. I even showed students in my classes one of his episodes and they came away entertained and impressed. I’ve also become a salt snob because of his show. My DVR has over 30 episodes of his that I have yet to watch.

I enjoyed Naked Chef when that was on. I wish they’d bring it back. Molto Mario is a good one as is Ham on the Street. Good Stuff. Best of luck to Emeril.

I found it to very educational, non-stressful but most of just part of my family. There goes my chance of every being a guest @ his table sampling his wonderful dishes.

Much luck to you Emeril you have definitely left a wonderful, long lasting impression and have made cooking a wonderful thing.

When my girlfriend told me on the phone the other night that Emeril had been cancelled, I asked her where she got that. She said from the radio. News on a country station here in Atlanta. So I told her that they probably got it wrong, and that he was retiring. I mean he IS the Food Network. If it wasn’t for Emeril, none of these other shows would have goten off the ground. I am sure that it will hurt them more than him, and I’m not concerned about that. And, along with just about every other post on here, Alton brown is THE MAN!!! The “Bill Nye the Science Guy” of the Food Network. Endlessly entertaing and informative. I can watch a show of his I’ve seen ten times and still enjoy it. I do miss Mario. And Tyler doesn’t seem to be around as much or at all. He was good. Some of those “Tyler’s Best” shows were great. Rachel Ray is ENTIRELY TOO OVEREXPOSED and I’m afraid Paula is heading that way too. Giada, fine. Gorgeous. I must confess I spend about as much time looking at her boobs as I do what she is cooking. Sandra…eh, she’s a MILF and all but…have you ever heard the stuff Bourdain has said about her? OUCH! “Guy’s Big Bite” and “Diners and Dives” I think is great. I like Bobby a lot, although I haven’t seen him on in a while. ICA is fine. I wish they still showed the original. I have no earthly idea why the dumb a* cake show, or desert shows in general, are on. I just don’t care. Irvine is good. Who else? Basically, I like the cooking aspect, learnign new recipes, seeeing how they are done. The entertainment should come from that. The stupid challnge shows suck. Oh…and can we have more NIGELLA LAWSON please please please…? Thank you. That is all.

The Food Network did to Emeril, what they are doing to Rachel Ray and Paula Deen….overexposure! But to let a mainstay like Emeril Live go….tragedy. That show is the reason I started watching the network to begin with. And I agree with everyone on Alton Brown. He is the man! At first, I didn’t like Guy Fieri (Diners, Dives, etc) at first, but he’s grown on me. Didn’t like Bobby Flay either, but I do like Throwdown. You can keep Nigella Lawson! Can’t stand to watch her. Food Network is the channel I watch most often. I like all the hosts of the cooking shows and I too think Alton Brown rocks. My favorite show though is “Unwrapped”. It is great to watch how some of our favorite foods are made along with the food TV commercials from the past. I really missed “Food Finds” but now I see it is on Fine Living. As far as Emeril being canned is concerned: That’s the way the cookie crumbles.

I used to enjoy “Emeril Live,” and I’ll even it admit that it is what got me watching the FN. The concept, however, is getting really old. How many times can one say “bam!” and get the audience to ooh and ahh? The concept just went flat. I like Emeril as a chef, but I think that he’s insincere as a people person…and stuff like that shows through after ten years. Has anyone ever seen him on an “Emeril Live” where he is cooking beside someone? He’s uncomfortable sharing the spotlight and it really shows.

I agree with the general consensus…I am tired of Rachel Ray.I watch the Food Network all day long and I hate when Emeril comes on. I just have never been a huge fan of his. I love watching just about every show…esp. Tyler Florence but I wish they would drop Robin Miller. Her stuff looks gross and you can always tell that they switch out what she did with something cooked off screen. Emeril will live through this he makes plenty of money.

Good riddance! Only five years too late. Maybe they’ll get rid of the new most annoying person on television, Rachael Ray, as well.

The Food Network will continue to go the way of infotainment shows (not necessarily a bad thing) and move further and further away from shows that actually help you learn about cooking.

As others have mentioned, Bourdain and Batali really know good food and try to elevate the art of cooking. It’s taken awhile, but Alton Brown is growing on me, too. Like Bryan, I couldn’t tell you one thing that Giada woman has ever cooked, though I’ve watched her several times.

Now if we could only get rid of Meredith Ford at the AJC!

Rachel is WAY overexposed… and Alton is an idiot, he still thinks there is a differance between kosher style salt and most table salt. I miss Mario and Jamie Oliver, and I will miss Emeril’s show.. but he seemed to be losing interest … it’s time for a new show, but I’m not sure a new “star”. The food network is seems to be losing real chefs and replacing them with excentric mediocre short order cooks

I think it it discusting that ” the Big Cook ” as my disabled brother calls him is being cancelled.Ralph plans his evening around Emeril. Ralph has limitations but when it comes to cooking he has learned ALOT. He will repeat steps as Emeril speaks . He undestands how important it is to start out on low with the mixer and how much fun it is to ” kick it up a notch “It is a sad state of affairs when the ” stars” that really make a difference are cancelled.

I am with the guy who feels like the food channel has really Blown it by cancelling Emeril Live. So what is the reasoning behind such rotten move ??? You ask anyone and they know who Emeril is. I REALLY do not like the way the food channel is going with some of the ” new shows like Diners Drivin and Dives . the Ace of Cakes etc. AND the WORST !!!! competition cooking. What possible gain is there in making others feel bad.Cooking has nothing to do with beating someone else. How juvenile!!!

Emeril’s recipes are usually too complicated and involve too many ingredients. I love the simplicity of Giada’s recipes and they always turn out fantastic!! Im southern so, of course, I love Paula too. Like Rachel, however, Paula is a little too overexposed IMO. The one I cannot stand is that Stepford Wife clone Sandra Lee!!! UGH, remove her from programming already!!! AND her “recipes” SUCK!! She always gets terrible reviews. Who goes out and spends $500 for a table setting you will use ONCE…She spends more on the table setting than she does on food!! “Hey, you’re eating Chef Boy R Dee off of a $50 charger plate! Aren’t I FABULOUS!?!?!”

I like Emeril too but I heard it was a money deal gone wrong. Could be that the old Bam Man is asking to much for his worth. I watch him quite often but I like Tyler’s Ultimate the best. Good recipes to try.

just the fact that everyone in the country is talking about Emeril live being canceled should tell you the Food Network made a big mistake and a lot of viewer enemies. He was the food network. I can’t believe anyone would rather watch Alton and his cheesy jokes and boring shows. If I wanted to be back in junior high science class, I would. No offense, but Emeril is king. Who isn’t sick of Rachel Ray? I’d like to see how many newspapers, tv channels, etc would cover a story if FN canceled Alton Brown or any other number of their shows. Let’s face it, Emeril and Mario were the most trained and talented chefs on the network and the FN just lost any form of reputable following.

My whole family and friends watch Emeril Live everyday. The reason being entertainment, and he is an all round cook - just give him the menu and he delivers - from scratch. Please reconsider your decision.

Thanks

I have learned so much from Emeril. Just watching him gives me confidence to try recipes. He is so fun. The music and the people…it all works. Too bad they are cancelling him. It will be like losing a good ol’ buddy. Cest la vie. I do like Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Nigella, Giada, and the new guy that does drive ins..but without the Big E. it won’t seem as cohesive.

Hey Ya’all!! lol..I feel kind of sorry for RR cuz everyone keeps badgering her. She had 30 min meals and was fine and then the spotlight took over.If I had my own cooking show and someone offered me a talk show (which I beleive Oprah did for her) I would take it to. I think she has alot of stage frieght and hasn’t gotten comfortable with “being herself” yet. Premature. I think she’s trying to hard. But at the end of the day when I make her meals and add my own twists my family is happy. Quit haten and start tastin’ people.Don’t make the FNT your life just make it informative info to make you look like a star in your kitchen! It’s not easy to please the whole world at once,so when your time comes to shine take it,cuz I’m sure Emril will comply that it dousn’t last forever! LOL

I thoroughly liked Emeril and will miss him as entertainment. Some of his recipes are truly good. I particularly enjoyed some of his culinary and musical guests. A half an hour of Rachael per evening is enough and none of Sandra and Paula, please!

I cannot believe that you are dropping emeril live. He is the only reason that I watch the food Network. The food network is making a clossel mistake in dropping his show. What are the suits thinking? It can’t possibly be the ratings. The man has 10 resturants all over the US and is possibly the most popular name chef around. Please rethink this decision.

Alton Brown is the best I have been watching the food network for years and I have learned more from him than anyone else he is the only one I DVR. I do watch Iron chef for enertainment that’s about it. I’m glad to see Emeril go he was my favorite for a long time but its time for a change.

Don’t get rid of Emeril! Toss RR or Ace of Cakes. AB is the most for my money. Guy F is very good also. Dump Paula, RR, Barefoot C and keep Emeril LIVE!

Two general comments I like to make about ALL the shows on your network, and I realize you have no control over: 1. Just about EVERYONE is geared towards carnivores and vegetarian meals are hard to come by (believe me, there is more to vegetarian cooking that than just salads). 2. Every chef uses TOO MUCH OIL/BUTTER. Then they announce how great his/her dish tastes. Even the so called “low carb” is full of fat. Of course with so much grease, food certainly tastes good!

I guess based on the diverse comments above that there really is something for everyone! I love Emeril and will miss the show, the entertainment and the great recipes. Also enjoy Iron Chef, Giada, Dinner Impossible, Bobbie Flay, Tyler Florence and Guy. What I could do without forever…Unwrapped, Secret Life Of, Paula Deen, Food Challenge, Barefoot Contessa.

It’s not suprising the Emerill was canceled. His recipes always included ingredients that are never avialable in anyone’s neighborhood! And far too many complicated steps until completion!

I agree with the majority - overexposure is hurting many of these shows. One show per host is enough as long as it is done right. I think each of them have their place. We still have “Essence” which is fine by me.

Again, I agree Alton is #1 with me. He actually teaches you something and his shows are never boring.

Even though she has only one show, I really don’t care for Sandra Lee. I think she has something to offer with Semi-Homemade, but her “tablescapes”, gaudy kitchen decor and fruity liquor concoctions are turnoffs. Just too tacky - wish the show would put more emphasis on the food and importance of a well-stocked pantry.

Food Network needs to take a deep breath and actually listen to it’s viewers and some of the consistent opinions on a blog such as this one. I also think HGTV needs to rethink some of it’s programming decisions.

Not sorry to see this show go. Haven’t watched regularly in quite a while, and when I do watch its the same thing all the time: the endless “Emerilisms” (Oh yeah, Babe; my flour doesn’t come seasoned; about 100 cloves of garlic, and on and on). Cooking shows don’t need 18 piece orchestras, and if I want to see an endless parade of B-list celebrities, I can watch the Tonight show.

By the way, I DID time the comemrcials vs. showtime. On the episode I watched, it was about three minutes of commercials to five minutes of show, and that includes the BAMS, the cuts to Doc Gibbs, and the inane commentary. Good riddance. Don’t get me wrong - I like Emeril. I just think the show had turned into a bit of a train wreck.

Emeril is the reason why I started watching FoodTV (Before it was the food network.) I was happy when the scheduling started at 7 AM on the weekends. I get up at 5 AM during the week, and I find it hard to sleep in during the weekend. I loved watching Essence and Emeril Live and Molto Mario on the weekends.

AB is the most informative chef on Food Network. He is great with the ‘Next Food Network Star,’ ‘The Next Iron Chef,’ and ‘Iron Chef America.’

I have grown to like Bobby Flay. Having said that, his show ‘Throwdown’ should get kicked down a notch before Emeril Live. I love his ‘Chillin and Grillin.’

As for overexposed - Rachel Ray by a mile. I turned on the TV a number of times to find Rachel Ray in 60, Rachel Ray in 30, and Rachel Ray Tasty Travels.

Eh … aside from Alton Brown, I really don’t get that much Food Network watching in. I like the Challenge shows, I suppose (and I can rhyme!) but aside from AB, it’s all eye-candy now.

America’s Test Kitchen on PBS, Saturday mornings, is fantastic. Followed by This is Atlanta Cooking and Everyday Food - probably the best couple of hours of food tv watching for me.

What a SHAME! Emeril made the food network what it is today. Our family truly enjoys watching him together and laugh all the way through. He helped instill a love of cooking in my son as well. Very diappointed in their choice of what shows to cancel. How many Rachel Ray shows do we need? These reality shows are over the top as well. We’ll definitely watch a lot less food network — perhaps just get recipies off the internet. Glad to see others feel the same way. BAD JUDGEMENT BY THE NETWORK!!.

Many of the shows on food network are timeless….not Emeril Live. The show has become tired and Big E seems bored. Gordon Ramsey is my personal hero and the best chef out there. Alton Brown is not a chef, he is a theater major who read a Mark Bittman book and had a chat with Shirley Corriher. Alton was rude and intentionally cruel to the contestants on The Next FN Star…showed him in a bad light. I liked the Asphalt show, but he’s not too nice to guests. RR, no comment. Paula Deen, I don’t like to see people eating their own food on camera.

RIP Emeril Live. I guess this is how the Food Network decides to treat the one personality it would be NOWHERE without. Emeril singlehandedly built that network and they’re canceling his show in return, which also happens to be the most entertaining show on the network.

Now all they have left is Alton Brown and a cast of thousands of hack chefs — RR and her incessant babbling, Bobblehead Giada showing off her big knockers, Paula Deen insulting Southerners everywhere with her fake accent, Bobby Flay’s Ego, Sandra Lee’s mutant cockroach arms and boobs that start at her bellybutton, etc. It’d be different if any of these people other than Alton were one-tenth the chef OR entertainer Emeril is.

Ditto what Tom said. I used to watch every evening to learn about cooking. The tour shows are boring. I have to DVR them, and hey advertisers, i skip the commercials!

Second, Emeril Live IS the Food Network. Big mistake.

Remember, it is only Emeril Live that is being canceled (and then, not until sometime next year) Essence of Emeril, which is more focused on cooking, remains. Personally I like “Essence” better and felt the showbiz glitz of Emeril Live seemed a bit forced. Like may others posting here, I find Good Eats is my favorite show. I am more likely to try something I learn there than to copy any one of Emeril’s recipes.

It was evident when the network started building these other celebrities that something was up. Emeril is like the godfather of the food network - bigger than the food network. All these other contenders combined don’t come close to Emeril. Some other stars have risen from the bunch though. Alton is excellent. Guy Fieri is another Emeril in the making in my opinion. Giada is extremely talented…although I recoil at the network’s attempts to “sex up” the channel…and Paula’s live sow has to be tanking - it’s revealed her to be a dirty old lady.

I’m sure money had a great deal to do with this.

Evidentially the network feels comfortable enough with the cast as a whole to not have to meet whatever the parameters would be to keep Emeril Live going. Hopefully it is a production that Emeril owns that he can take to another network.

And FOR THE LIFE OF ME- I will never understand the fascination with RACHEL RAY. No skill, no training no talent. I’ve tried with no luck to watch and just can’t. She’s annoying. The only thing worse than her nails on a chalk board voice - is her personality and the need for her to sit on her hands when she talks. Her voice has gone from bad to worse in the last several years. Is it the victim of over-use, booze, drugs, eating at the y - or who knows what? And she supposedly is raking in 16 million a year! Who thought that was a good idea? Oprah? I’m guessing another power Lesbian…Like another poster here - when she comes on we change the channel…

Don’t misunderstand here - the Emeril operation did a royal job of p** me off about 5 years ago…but the classy folks at home base BENT OVER BACKWARDS. 100% class.

Something the Food Network could use more of…

I was never a big fan of Emeril Live, but have been known on occasion to watch Essence of Emeril (I like him better when he’s low key).

Personally, I’m not sure why there are so many people dissing Ace of Cakes. I’m a cake maker in my spare time, and I think that it wouldn’t hurt to have more of that kind of thing on FN. I miss Sweet Dreams with Gail Gand, Cooking Live with Sara Moulton, Jacques Torres and The Naked Chef…where did “old school” food network go? oh yeah, Alton Brown does rule :)

AB inspired me to learn more about food science. However, I’ve never liked his recipes.

I’ve always been very successful with Tyler’s recipes. I guess I’m more inclined to cook his type of food well.

Paula Deen is a sweetheart and I love her to death.

Rachel Ray is overrated, but her recipes turn out really good, too.

Guy is definately a great new addition. It’s nice to see a foodie with some meat on his bones!!!!
