Where’s Your Favorite Diner?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Diners have never really taken the same form south of the Mason/Dixon Line as they have in the north. Atlanta has very few real “diners.”
One of the real ones — Silver Grill on Monroe in Midtown — closed last December after 58 years in business. It reopened Tuesday with new owners and a new name: Silver Midtown Grill (for more details check out my column, Dishing, in next week’s accessAtlanta).
I’m anxious to check it out. With so few to chose from, where are the best diners in the Atlanta area?

2nd - Atlanta Diner (next to Fuzzy’s Place on N. Druid Hills) Great food also. Really good lunch specials. VERY CLEAN!

Rexall Grill, Duluth. Can’t beat it. It’s even on the AJC’s top 50 of ALL restaurants in Atlanta.

I was raised in an area that has diners on every street corner. The Marietta Diner outshines all of the other diners I have every ate at. No matter what you order, the food is tasty and plentiful. The prices are great. Their desserts are so delicious, my Husband and I had the Marietta Diner custom bake the desserts for our wedding last year.

B&B’s in Alpharetta, the best bagels and the best breakfast, and a few good natured New Yorkers to boot!
There are good New Yorkers believe it or not Atlanta, and they happen to know a thing or two about diners.
When in Alpharetta, do not miss B&B’s!

Marietta Diner, hands down. My theater group and I go there after our semi-monthly theater trips for coffee and dessert. It is incredible.

Marietta Diner, absolutely! The service is great, portions are huge (so you always get a doggie bag), prices very reasonable, and the food tastes GREAT! Be sure to try the short ribs w/ mashed potatoes….it’s like being at mom’s for Sunday dinner!

yes…there are no diners down south. Period. A true diner that serves basically everything one could want. A few places that call themselves diners down here, but they are not really diners. Like most things down here….”faux” would be the best way to describe them.

well dave, aren’t you faux-cetiously enlightening… get back to your beloved ‘real’ diners.
The Majestic, at 4am.
ps- the Marietta Diner ffolkes bought Cherokee Cattle Company a couple months ago, adding some nightly specials to change up the menu a bit. they’ve been packing them in at lunch and dinner.

Thumbs Up Diner is by far the best. I’ve tried the one on Edgewood and the one on White’s Way in East Point. Top notch. They have a blue plate special with the best tuna sandwich EVER. And their brunch is awesome. Nice little bottles of Vermont syrup for the waffles. Yum…
