How Far Will You Go for a Meal?

Elbulli? Per Se? Joel Robuchon? Spain, New York or Paris?

Who has the best restaurant in the world? Would you travel across the globe to eat at it?

The best meal I’ve had in recent memory was at Bonefish Grill in Pensacola, FL. Absolutely delicious, and extremely reasonable, given the superb quality of the food and the excellent service. Have you ever had salmon actually melt on your tongue? YUM!

To my surprise, there are several in Atlanta, so I’ll be eating there again very soon. Check it out! [http://www.bonefishgrill.com/home.asp]

You don’t have to go far at all. Head to Andre’s Off the Square in downtown Newnan. We are so happy we finally got a good restaurant on the south side.

My husband, another couple and I had dinner at the French Laundry in Yountville, California on September 24. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The food was perfect, the service was perfect. Cranberry, we have also eaten at Bonefish Grill in Destin and it was delicious.

I would like to try them all just to find out. Some of my most memorable dining experiences have been at French Laundry (Yountville), Per Se (New York), Tallevant (Paris) and most every place I ate in Italy although I have no recollection of what the names are.

Well, I would hesitate to say that anyone but the utmost elite in society travel to say, Paris merely for dinner. That’s not to say that dinner in Paris can’t be a strong lure to visit the city, but let’s be reasonable ;-) With that said, if I had a dream trip I would say it’s a 50/50 split between Paris and Tokyo.

Good point, Drew (about the elite getting to jet to another continent just to eat) - HOWEVER, I have booked several plane tix in the continental US that have really been about wanting to eat at a particular place.

The last was at Uglesich’s in New Orleans - TOTAL dive spot, in a not-too-friendly part of NOLA but worth it all. It closed, then re-opened, then closed, then re-opened again and last I was there (August - yet another food trip but for nothing specific) none of the locals seemed to know if it had opened again or not.

I did stumble in a great used cook book store that trip, but that’s another forum.

I’ve also been to Philly specifically to eat at some of Stephen Starr’s restaurants. Granted, I have friends that live there so I had no lodging expense, but still - :)
