How Often Do YOU Dine Out?

I’ve gotten used to not eating at home anymore — but I miss it. Dining out five to ten times a week is a state of being for dining critics.

For most people, I would guess it’s often the opposite — they wish they could dine out more.

How often do you dine out in a week? Is it for business, or because you prefer it? If it’s the latter, do you take the whole family? Or do you only dine out for special occasions?

2-3 times a week. Usually with my sweetie, sometimes with a group of friends, or as a way to get together with a friend.

including take out? including lunches? Way more than we should! Probably as often as you…though not at the ITP ‘trends’ you mention in your columns. It is also not the ‘Chili’s” types much….I love a dive that has good food. Cracker Barell is the chain I frequent for breakfast or kid friendly.

My wife and I eat out about once a month. (And no, I am not saying why feed the fish another worm after you caught it). We are trying to save money for the down payment on a house - how old fashioned! - and need to cut back all we can.

At work I bring my lunch. It may seem stingy but money is too hard to earn and too easy to spend. Some of you might say that factoring in time spend preparing and cleaning for the meal it is cheaper to eat out but I disagree. One can good a good and nutritous meal in about twenty minutes. Add in ten for clean up and that is the transportation time to go out. One can also prep a great dinner for around 2 to 3 dollars a person if you budget correctly.

I take out clients (the poor souls who work downtown) for lunch once a week. The wife and I eat out 3-4 times a week in the ‘burbs. Maybe once a month we will try an ITP restaurant - but NEVER after dark (I don’t have a permit to carry a concealed firearm). At least OTP I don’t have to worry about having things taken out of my vehicle after using the mandatory valet parking.

Dining out - tt’s one of the joys in life, isn’t it?

Typically, I eat out nearly as much as I cook at home - probably near a 50/50 split. I find both really fulfilling - I like the creative aspect of cooking at home, and I like the indulgence of a really good, sometimes really spendy but not always, meal at a restaurant.

We eat out maybe twice a week…Would be less but our current lives kinda demand it so for now we do it.

Like Peterpaul we are saving money and getting out of debt. It is a LOT cheaper to cook at home than it is to eat out, even at cheap places. Don’t worry Peter, you have no reason to sound so apoligetic (sp?).

We typically eat out twice a week — Monday nights, after I’ve done my weekly grocery shopping and the last thing I feel like doing is coming home, unloading it all, and then cooking a meal, and on Friday nights to unwind from the week. When I say eating out, I mean meals in the $20-30 range. Fern bars, cheap Mexican, pizza, etc. The rest of the week, I’m cooking meals at home, usually in about 30 minutes to put together a nice, tasty meal. And, the great thing about cooking at home is the leftovers for brown-bagging it at work, so there’s no need to spend any extra time prepping a lunch. Throw in a couple of extra chicken breasts and a few more veggies, and you’ve got plenty for lunch the next day. Of course, sandwiches are always quick and easy for lunch.

My husband eats lunch out about once a week, and I buy lunch out about once every 3 weeks. Saves me lots of time and gas not having to drive out every day to pick up an overpriced or unhealthy lunch.
