What’s Your Best new Restaurant

“Esquire” food and travel correspondent John Mariani has unveiled his picks for the annual Best New Restaurants list in this November’s issue of the magazine (on newstands October 16).

His picks for Atlanta? Shaun’s in Inman Park and Trois in Midtown. Mariani and staff also visited JCT Kitchen, Decatur’s Chocolate Bar and Kevin Rathbun Steak, as well as Tamarind Seed Thai Bistro and The Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton, downtown.

Lots of new spots have opened this year. What’s your favorite of the newbies?

you know….i gotta agree with Shaun’s, but Trois? not so much. I also think JCT and FAB would be in consideration.

We don’t do restaurants. We are avid fans of The Food Network, and get recipes from there all the time. Hubby and I love to be in the kitchen together trying new dishes. Especially on the weekends. Something new every Friday and Saturday night. Plus a good bottle of wine. WAY cheaper, and much more fun than any restaurant in town.

I haven’t set foot in a restaurant in over three years.

It’s not new but it is still a favorite. Mosaic in buckhead.

Cyndi: You are ridiculous for so many reasons, especially for the way that your name is spelled.

I’d have to say Shaun’s. Or does the re-opening of Joel count as new?

Trois - fun place for nibbles and scene - not my favorite for a meal.

@Matt - be nice to Cyndi - she’s proud of her Rachael Ray knife set and branded EVOO.

Gabe’s Downtown in Villa Rica.

Casual atmosphere with fine-dining dishes. Not too expensive, great bar and atmosphere.

Sorry Matt, my parents picked the name and the spelling, I didn’t have a vote. It’s unique, just like me. ;)

Actually I don’t care for Rachael Ray. But I do like EVOO and use it often!!!!

And my idea of going out for dinner, is going over to friends houses and cooking with them. You might want to try it, it really is alot of fun. Plus you can control the amount of food, calories, etc.

Ya’ll have fun in the pricey, fattening restaurants, that serve way too much food, and charge way too much for a meal. I mean, some restaurants charge $10 just for 1/2 glass of wine. I can get two bottles at the store for that price.

I prefer home-cooked meals any day of the week!!! Especially when my sexy as hell hubby is right there with me!!!!! Talk about a great date!!!

Lola is fantastic. It is a bit expensive, but you can get the half order of pasta or a pizza and not spend too much. They also have a very nice patio facing Piedmont.

Top Flr in Midtown should be on any best new restaurant list. Bistro style food with great ingredients and excellent preparation. The prices are very reasonable. And it’s open until 2 am!

Cyndi, the question was what new restaurants would you recommend. Since you don’t eat out, you can’t answer the question. End of story. We don’t really care that you don’t eat out, either.

Trois is great. Their Sous Vide duck is to kill for, and at $18, quite the bargain. Also, the brick of chocolate at the end of the meal is a very cool touch. The Esquire guy is right.

Kevin Rathburn’s steak is best new restaurant for my vote. Shaun’s was just so, so. Good vibe at Shaun’s , especially bar, but food, so , so. Very slow service. Rathburn’s steak is flawless. Great ceviche specials, especially the scallops. Trois is a pick up, meat market. Very disappointed with Esquire’s taste and Cyndi, learn to read..The question was restaurant and what kind of wine do you drink for $5.00 a bottle? You must watch the wrong versions of Food Network. Try Fine Living.

I second Fred’s comment to Cyndi. Not trying to be mean, but if the question doesn’t apply to you - DON’T RESPOND! It drives me nuts when people do that on this blog!
