My family all knows that the BEST fried pie is the peach pie at the Varsity ! I’m sorry , you can’t beat it. McDonalds apple pies weren’t bad until they went for that healthier baked, not fried style. Varsity gets my vote !

Checkers has a good fried apple pie loaded with cinnmon….in case you are missing the McDs ones.
I agree that the Varsity cannot be beat for: FOs, Naked Dogs, Fry Pie, and baskets of Os…..YUM….I think I might hit JV on the way home.

You haven’t had a fried pie unless you’ve been to the Dwarf House in Hapeville. No comparison to any fried pie anywhere - except maybe your mama’s or your granny’s. Baked cardboard with 3 chunks of apple from the golden arches shouldn’t even be considered pie.

My Aunt Phoebe Hodgens of Sprott, Alabama, made fried pies that incited shoving matches at family reunions and dinners on the ground. Ladies would stuff their handbags, men would grab handfuls and inhale. She dried her own apples and peaches, cooked them down with sweetness and spices, made crustwith a sweetened biscuit dough, and fried them on a wood stove in a big, black skillet in lard. Even my Yankee husband would hoard one or two for the drive home. My grandmother, Anna Taylor Barnett, made them also but somehow, my mother never quite mastered them. Aunt Phoebe died many years ago after a long illness, but memories of her fried pies live on!

The best fried pipes I have are located on the highway on the way to the Cotten Pickin Fair in Gay, GA. The fried pies in the fair aren’t all that great- too much batter and way to expensive but there are lots of little yard sale type things on the way to the fair from Atlanta and those places have awesome fried pies for a lot cheaper. The best fried pie flavor has to be peach or sweet potato- very yummy.
