What Kind of Water do You Like to Drink?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The heat has made us all more aware of how hydrated we need to stay. I’m noticing more and more Atlanta restaurants automatically offering bottled water — still and with bubbles — to get things started at the table. When Seeger’s offered nothing but bottled waters years ago the restaurant was skewered for its snobbishness. Now we feel gypped if we’re not offered a variety. What type of water do you prefer when dining out? Are you willing to pay for bottled water?

It doesn’t matter if you’re buying tap water disguised as bottled!! I prefer filtered water (at home), but when out I’ll either take my own bottled water (I don’t buy all of the brands out there) or drink something else….but I prefer filtered water!!!

Tap water is fine with me and I don’t have a problem if a restaurant offers bottled water with it. Just please don’t assume that I want a lemon with it! When did restaurants all decide that anyone who orders water has to have a lemon with it?

Frankly, I see nothing snobby, snooty, high-falootin or otherwise hoity-toity about preferring to drink bottled water.
I certainly don’t want flouride-chlorine-whoknowswhatelse tainted water to drink while eating something tasty.
My favorites are Fiji (home) and Panna (dining out). If I can get Fiji when dining out I prefer it.

Filtered or non-filtered tap water.

I am a total water snob! It has to be filtered or bottle. I have a filter on my tap and a Brita because you never know what’s in the water!

Amen on the lemon! Why would I want lemon in my water. Tap water is fine.

Mike K: - It’s the powerful lemon lobby out there. Very similar to the carrot and cabbage lobby that infiltrated our lettuce. They learned it from the pickle lobby who worked their way onto buns everywhere.

Where did all you people get the idea that bottled watter is better than tap water? Last time I looked we haven’t had any outbreaks of deadly diseases from tap water anywhere in this country. Water is water, it doesn’t have a taste unless it is sulphur water and even though sulphur water smells rank it is perfectly safe to drink and will probably provide some minerals. Also, I agree with the no lemon people. If I wanted lemon I would order lemon ade instead of plain water.

Tap water is fine with me because it’s not too cold. But at a restaurant or at home I like sparkling mineral water, a habit I picked up after spending time in Germany. Much better than a soda and so refreshing.

I firmly stand by bottled water and I don’t mind paying for it. It’s convenient, tastes great and is much better for you than soda. My favorite bottled water is Icelandic Glacial. I haven’t seen it in restaurants yet but I am sure it will be soon. It tastes fantastic and it’s also an environmentally friendly company. Panna is my water of choice when dining out.

I drink filtered thru the frig at home. Bottled water is actually WORSE for the environment because only about 20% of plastic bottles actually get recycled.

I prefer tap water or Publix purified drinking water or Kroger brand water. I can’t stand mineral water, spring water, fitness water, flavored water, sports water, etc. That’s all just crap.
Just give me a glass of the stuff on ice, with a lemon please!!! I am a water junkie. I don’t drink sodas or coffee, however, the only time I drink sodas is with bourbon or vodka!!!

A lot of restaurants are selling bottled water because when people don’t pay when the water comes from the tap and the establishment actually loses $$$.
Personally I drunk bottled water because I can carry it around, it doesn’t go flat and doesn’t have the calories/chemicals that soda does.

Remember that much of the bottled water available is actually tap water. It was just released that Aquafina, the best selling bottled water, is unfiltered water from a public source, which means it’s tap water. Dasani is tap water that has been filtered. I have a brita at home and generally buy dasani bottled water if I’m going to buy bottled water, but at a restaurant, I don’t care.

As long as there are no cooties in the water I’m fine with tap, can’t tell the difference and don’t think anyone else can. One bottler just admitted that “filtered” tap is what goes into their bottles. As for lemmons, I agree with Mike K. If I wanted to taste lemmons I’d order lemmonaide.

I drink Dasani water. A co-worker once gave me a bottle of Sam’s purified water and surprisingly it was very good.

Obviously tap water works. The only place I would consider paying for water is at the beach, where the tap water tends to taste bad. But here in Atlanta, you can’t tell the difference.

I don’t care if it’s bottled or tap..As for the lemon, I order a lemon with my water & my co worker say’s NO lemon & gets one any way..I actually buy the favored waters, but it doesn’t matter if it’s a name brand or the store brand, as long as it’s ice cold..

Aren’t some companies about to start disclaiming their water is nothing more than tap water? why would you want to pay extra for this?

My GE Frigider puts out the best water. I change the filter once a year but always a clean refreshing taste and its cold too!

Bottled water is the biggest scam to come along in a long time. There are no guarantees that it is any better than tap water and may be worse. The chemicals released by warmed plastic are cited for a number of ills. (As with plastic water bottles in hot cars.) Also, plastic is a petroleum product, so plastic bottles raise energy prices. Disposable containers add tons of waste and billions of dollars to landfill.
Taxpayers pay an enormous amount of money to make sure we have drinkable water. It is safe, cost-effective, non-polluting, and available to everyone. It makes sense and cents to appreciate that.

Aquafina or Publix purified. I don’t care if it’s tap water, I just want to ensure that it is CLEAN tap water.
Aquafina from day one stated that their water was tap… I couldn’t understand all the hoopla. It clearly stated on the label that it was purified city water.

My dentist said years ago that bottled water drinkers were his favorite patients, since most bottled water has no flouride, he was seeing more cavaties than in the last 20 years. (His 2nd favorite patient=pierced tongues, as the jewelry wears the enamel off the teeth.)

Aquafina is not purified. It is plain tap water. Dasani is filtered tap water.

Y’mean, they automatically bring you bottled water - at a charge - without even asking if you want it? I just get plain unbottled water at a restaurant, with lemon and without ice (brain freeze). Water is about all I drink at home or anywhere with the rare exception of a diet soda or sugar-free caffeine-free tea. I have a faucet filter at home and just get my water there. I only drink bottled water on road trips.

No thanks to pickles either on my buns or off. When dining out I just order water (I assume it’s tap because I don’t specify bottled). I’m not really thirsty because I drink water all day to stay hydrated, but if I don’t order something to drink it drives servers into a frenzy trying to at least bring me a glass of water because they just want to see me with a beverage.

did someone here (Vince?) say that a bottled water company is “environmentally friendly”?? that might be the most ignorant comment i’ve seen on one of these blogs in a while. there is NOTHING environmentally friendly about the bottled water industry, from the obscene amount of plastic waste it produces to the obscene amount of fossil fuels required to move it all around, almost always to a place that has tap water access (tap water which is required to meet much more stringent health regulations then the bottled water industry). wake up, people. “convenience” is not the only thing to base a decision on. and to the people who must have one brand vs. another, i call shennanigans. i guarantee you wouldn’t be able to pick your own professed favorite out of a blind taste test.

I no longer drink bottled water due to exactly what DJ said above. The bottled water industry is the biggest scam ever! I drink filtered water from my KLEAN KANTEEN every day, and avoid plastics as much as possible!
