Will you buy Peter Pan peanut butter again?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In February, Peter Pan peanut butter vanished from stores after it was linked to a salmonella outbreak that sickened at least 628 people. ConAgra Foods, which makes Peter Pan, attributed the problem to a leaky roof and a sprinkler system that moistened peanuts or dust in the plant, creating conditions that allowed salmonella to grow.
Peter Pan, made only at that plant in Sylvester, Ga., has been out of stores while ConAgra renovated the plant and put on a new roof. The company plans to resume making the peanut butter and return Peter Pan to stores in late August.
Will you buy that brand of peanut butter again? If so, why? If not, why not? And were you a Peter Pan buyer before?

Yes it was a great peanut butter before the unfortunate salmonella outbreak . How many millions of jars were sold over how many years of operation. If this is the only situation then we need to feel lucky. Im sure that more stringent controls are already in place and if anything their product should be safer than ever. I applaud Con Agra for their efforts in cleaning up this situation and look forward to purchasing Peter Pan and all Con Agra products in the future The Quality is there.

First, the tagline on the main page ‘will Peter Pan fly again’ in no way indicated peanut butter to me. I thought we were talking about some sort of stage production of Peter Pan or another Peter Pan book.
Second, YES!! If I could find it on the shelves I would already have it in my pantry. I’ve been without peanut butter since the recall. I don’t like any other brands and I’ve been waiting as patiently as possible for Peter Pan to reappear.

Sure, I’ll but it. Like Charles said, it’s safer now than it ever has been. I was practically raised on peanut butter, it was about the only thing I’d eat when I was a kid. I always have some on hand. I still love a peanut butter sandwich on wheat with either raisins or guava jelly. Can’t go wrong.

Absolutely! If you look at the math, there were 600 “reports” of people getting sick from Peter Pan. That’s less than they make in 1 day at the plant! Hundreds of thousands of jars were sold. I had two jars (plain and crunchy) that we had half-eaten and fed to our children when the recall came out. I finished off the jars and never got sick and the kids hadn’t prior to the recall. (I was responsible and didn’t continue to feed the “affected” jars to my kids). These types of things are much more often media hysteria. The percent chance of someone actually getting sick is remote. Only a few of the reports could be certain that the peanut butter was the culprit. Many times people hear a news story about tainted whatever and immediately get sick, even if they hadn’t had that particular food in weeks, then they erroneously blame the product! Chill, people!

I work at the refund desk for a major retailer. I personally refunded at least a hundred of jars of PP. I still plan to buy a jar the day it returns to the shelf. I tried several different brands and threw them all away. NOTHING compares to the taste of Peter Pan, I love it.

No, I can’t even eat any peanut butter anymore thanks to peter pan causing me to puke my guts out for days and landing me in a hospital for dehydration. You believe the spin of con agra? Imagine a leaky tin roof full of rust holes covered with pigeon poop, dead bugs, soot and dust; and then a rain storm washing it into your mouth, that’s what a jar of peter pan was. Corporate wouldn’t fix that? What else is waiting for you peanut butter eating fool with your next hit of Peter Pan?

Thank God Peter Pan will be in stores this month! I have not had peanut butter since it’s been out of the stores, my children will not eat anything but Peter Pan. I was raise on Peter Pan, there is not another peanut butter that can touch it as far as I’m concerned! Thank you!

The only peanut butter my family likes is Peter Pan. None of the other brands can compete with its taste. We will be so happy to have Peter Pan back on the shelves. We will definitely be bringing some home to our pantry. We especially like the honey roasted peanut butter—no other brands make it. My 65 year old husband loves the extra crunchy honey roasted PP peanut butter. It’s the only brand my 41 year old son has ever eaten since he was a child. All of my grandchildren love PP, too.

I have been eating Peter Pan for as long as I can remember, and that has been 50 years. Peter Pan is the best tasting. You don’t have to take my word for it. A few years ago, a consumer magazine tested peanut butters, and which one do you think was the best tasting? As far as I am concerned, there is no contest. I have also looked at the empty space on the grocery shelves hoping that it would come back.

I’ll definitely buy it again. I went to the grocery store last night here in Chicago and was dismayed to see that it wasn’t on the shelves yet. I tried a Skippy brand that had no hydroginated oils in it, it was Okay, but didn’t hold a candle to Peter Pan!

Like others, I have looked for a substitute but they do not fit the bill. I look each trip to the store for Peter Pan. I found this site while checking to see if the company went out of business. So, what is in Peter Pan Peanut Butter that makes it so distinctive? More sugar? More honey? All of the other brands taste relatively the same. How come Peter Pan is so distinctive?

It’s true, picky people pick Peter Pan peanut butter! I haven’t eaten peanut butter since Peter Pan was pulled from the shelves. MOST DEFINITELY! I have missed my favorite peanut butter… Creamy Honey Roasted Peter Pan! YUM! My mouth waters at the thought. I’ve tried the other brands out there over the last six months and none of them taste anywhere near as good. Every time I go to the grocery store I check to see if it is back. Knowing its return is on the horizon is the highlight of my day!

YES WE WILL STAY TRUE TO THE PAN. My Family (of 5 plus all the neighborhood kid’s) has tried 3 other brands due to the Pan being recalled. We disliked (no hated) all 3, and decided to wait for the Pan to be back. There is no other peanut butter that even comes near the good taste of Peter Pan Peanut Butter. My family will be glad when the Pan is back.

I thought Peter Pan was never coming back which meant I could never eat peanut butter again. Peter Pan is the only peanut butter my mother ever bought. She even tried to trick me once with another brand but I could tell the difference. I tried a couple of the other brands but couldn’t eat them. They tasted like cardboard and I don’t eat JIF under any circumstances.

I want my Peter Pan back, nothing even comes close, I would never eat anything but Peter Pan, as a matter of fact a friend told me I would never be able to tell the difference and one day just after waking he had two spoons of peanut butter on the counter, I said I just woke up you can’t do this to me, so I tried the two peanut butters and guess what, he was mad and I knew exactly which one was Peter Pan. I eat a lot of peanut butter because I eat very little meat. Please hurry with the return of my peanut butter I miss it so much. This time I’m going to stock up. I ate have of one of the recalled jars and nothing happened to me. so what’s the big deal, Oh Yeah, this sue happy country of ours, did half of those people even really get sick? I have been a fan of Peter Pan Peanut Butter since I was a child. I have 4 kids and they, in turn, love Peter Pan. Since the recall we have tried every other peanut butter out there. Jiff is too stiff, it does not get soft when you put it on a piece of toast. Skippy tastes like card board. Laura Scudders makes great cookies, but is a little to unrefined for our taste. My kids and I cannot wait until we can purchase Peter Pan again. I will buy it again in a heart beat. I look at the peanut butter aisle every week, to see if it is back. I think that the whole fiasco was handled well by Con Agra, and I will be a loyal custumer for life, as long as I can have my soft and gooey peanut butter and toast in the morning!

Absolutely yes. I’m already looking for Peter Pan peanut butter, but still haven’t found it. Short of buying organic “old fashioned” peanut butter with the oil floating on top that has to be stirred before you can eat it, Peter Pan is the only brand I’ll buy.
