Indian A List

With the owners of Madras Saravana Bhavan departing and the opening soon of the much-awaited MGR Palace in Stone Mountain (owned by the former chef of Madras), Indian food is getting a bit of a shake up in Atlanta. Add to that the big boo boo last week in Access Atlanta’s readers’ poll, the Big A List (compiled and voted on by readers), calling Imperial Fez the “best Indian in Atlanta,” and we’ve got ourselves a mess. Atlanta has so much great Indian food — Vatica, Zyka, — but do we know our dosai from our dal? Where’s you favorite Indian cuisine?

For a great Indian fix, I’ll make the trek to Alpharetta to eat at Minerva (it’s near the intersection of Something Bridge Rd and Something-else Bridge Rd)…tasty fare and non-stop Bollywood on the big screen. For lunch, nobody can touch the buffet at Swapna on Cobb Parkway, especially when they have the lamb curry.

I love to eat at Himalayas in Chamblee Plaza or Zyka in Decatur.

I love Swapna on Cobb parkway. They have good food at reasonable price and all the servers smile, talk, and give an excellent service.

The owner is not customer friendly. Never talk to us or never recognize us as regular customer!!

The Havali is the worse of all restaurant. If you are Indian they do not treat you good.

I’d give “Flavors of India” in Duluth high marks for wonderful and tasty food, friendly service and good prices. It’s on hwy 120 and Medlock Bridge…

I also heard that the original owners of Madras SArav. Bhavan from India are starting their authentic Indian restaurant… If it’s true, then South Indian veg. food available in Atlanta would be the best ever!!

I’m indian and the best indian lunch buffet I’ve ever had is at Minerva in Alpharetta. A little pricy ($8.99) but great quality and selection. And it’s always packed, especially on Fridays when they expand selection.

Hey,

Where are the MSB guys going? Are they relocating somewhere outside metro Atlanta area? What’s going on? Appreciate you inputs, Meredith.

Attention any Indian chefs reading this: We are in need of you in Griffin. All we have is mediocre Chinese and mediocre Mexican (about ten restaurants for each).Oh, and also “Mama’s,” the worst country buffet swill you’ve ever forced down your gullet. If you came here, dear Indian restauranteur, I for one would be your most loyal customer!

Indian food in Atlanta is mediocre. The available offerings just scratch the surface of true Indian cuisine. I am a fan of Bhojanic however.

I’m not a connoisseur on Indian food by any means, but I found the lunch buffet at Bombay Grill on Savoy Drive wonderful. I have also enjoyed Planet Bombay and Calcutta in Little Five Points.

  • Minerva is too Oily and creamy. Visiting once in a while is fine. MSB has been bought over and the “original” Saravana Bhavan (SB) Chain from Chennai, India is taking over. SB is in many parts of the world

  • Pure Vegegarians: Try Banaras. 3300 PEACHTREE INDUSTRIAL BLVD, Duluth, GA 30096, (678) 417-1911. The food and service are great

  • Just past Banaras is Royal highway on 120. The food is great. It is a new restaurant. It is a must try. They have got great variety. If you dont like what do you see in the menu, tell them what you need and they try their best to satsify your needs.

  • 4315 Abbotts Bridge Rd Ste 3, Duluth, GA30097 Phone: (678) 469-0540.

  • I think another new big indian restaurant chain is coming to State Bridge/Johns Bridge intersection.
