Harry’s Pizza at the corner of Powers Ferry and Interstate North Parkway. This is a family owned business where everybody knows everybody. They are busiest at lunch. You can get anything you want on a slice.

As a side note, Harry opened this place as a Mellow Mushroom. About 10 years ago he broke from them and became independent. Harry was in his 80’s, worked lunch every day, and knew all of the customers. Sadly, he died at the end of June but his son still runs the place. All of the staff and customers were upset by Harry’s death, but he will be remembered fondly by everyone!!

SO they have a Mellow Mushroom style of pizza?! Geez, might as well vote Papa Johns or CiCi’s as best slice!

Bella’s in Smyrna has fantastic slices. They’re ginormous, and taste even better after a couple of minutes under the broiler at home.

The best pizza by the slice is at Cosmo’s Little Italy in downtown Lawrenceville. Worth a drive from ANYwhere; he hand-makes the sauce from scratch everyday, the crust is always fresh and the cheese is rich and delicious.

I think Nancy’s Chicago Pizzeria in Buckhead across from Huff furniture is great! Lots of great combinations for your personal pizza masterpiece or just get it by the slice. Watch the game, have a cocktail, listen to some groovy music. You might just spot a celeb while there too!

Capozzi’s in Marietta. Best NY slice I’ve found outside of the city itself.

Harry’s is good, but it’s Mellow Mushroom with different (better) sauce. Also, great calzones, and awesome atmosphere. They lost their franchise because Harry changed some ingredients and it ticked MM off. It’s still great pizza tho, and you’re right, Harry is missed muchly.

So, I grew up on Fellini’s back when it was next to the bike shop in Buckhead and used to think it was the best in town, but now I must say that crown has been passed onto Blue Moon Pizza on Windy Hill. The food is great, the service is good and they have a great atmostphere too.

The crust is awesome and so are the toppings, both in quality and variety.

The best pizza by the slice is Rosa’s in downtown on Broad St. When I worked downtown, I used to love to go over there for a couple of slices at lunch.

Fellini’s, hands down. Best when just hot out of the oven and cut from a fresh pie, as you don’t want a slice that has been laying around (gets dried out). I will have to try Harry’s again as we used to frequent this place when it was MM. Capozzi’s in East Cobb is great. Feels like a real NY pizza place. Good pasta too and cheap!

Slice Pizza on Howell Mill is not bad for lunch if you want to get out of downtown for lunch. The house slice is great with all the toppings piled on.

Best pizza-by-the-slice place I’ve ever eaten at is Little Italy in Athens, GA. Nothing beats it after a night of drinking. The line out the door and down the sidewalk at 3am proves it.

  • Grant Central East in East Atlanta and Savage Pizza in L5P are really good.
  • Rosas on Broad Street, excellent.

But the best pizza in the world? Pepe’s Pizza in New Haven, CT. Ain’t a place in Georgia that can hold a candle to it!

Best pizza in the ATL (now) is Bella’s Pizzeria on East/West Connector. Now before they closed-the best was Danato’s. They were the best. BUT the BEST pizza I have EVER had is in Ohio and it is called Nicky’s Pizzeria. It was apart of the Cornersburg Chain. If you ever go to Youngstown, Ohio. Go get a slice. PERFECT!

Enzo’s Pizza in Tucker. It’s new and the slices are the best I have ever had. They don’t taste like they’ve come from a cheese pizza that’s been sitting under a heat lamp for hours and then just had the toppings thrown on. Very good!

I’ve had Baby Tommy’s in Marietta, on Cobb Parkway. It was very good. but a bit pricey.

La Bella’s in East Cobb is the best New York pizza in metro Atlanta. Nuthin fancy. Just a hole in the wall takeout, with a couple of tables if you want to dine in.

i’m from lower eastside manhattan, left in ‘00 and believe me…Rosa’s is closes to NYC ‘za. Only Lombardi’s or Arturo’s in NYC are the best ‘ZA. Il Bacio - upstate Ny’ers (no such thing but southerners wont know the diff) was decent when opened…now not so great. who ever thinks Nancy’s, Fellinis or M.M. are good…prolly thinks Ru san’s has good sushi too. it is what it is. its all about the charred and bubbled crust. my bad on OZ ‘za in the other hoods…thought the only one was in decatur.

Was visiting this blog seeking a pizza & beer joint for team next week near office complex in Marietta. Don’t have many options other than Mellow Mushroom & Harry’s Pizza. I’m truly sad to read that Harry passed. He was such a wonderful man & really cared about his customers. From my first order, he remembered everything about me & my teams. Our staff often demanded his products even if we ordered lunch every day (which happens regulary - every day for three weeks straight for 40+ people). When I finally visited Mellow Mushroom, I couldn’t find the resemblance between theirs & Harry’s so Harry REALLY did have a special touch. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has gone WAY down since his son took over! We barely place one small order per quarter now. I really hope Jr. makes an attempt to fill papa’s big shoes. (Harry, you’re definitely missed!)

I’m from Chicago so the idea of pizza in Atlana was laughable…. and don’t even mention Nancy’s in Buckhead. People from Chicago don’t even eat Nancy’s so I thought it was funny they were branching out. Best pizza slices in Atlanta is by far Grant Central in East Atlanta Village. For a whole pie go for Everybody’s Pizza in Virgina Highlands. YEAH!!!

When these people talk about leaving New York, they need to be a little more specific. Sounds like the lived on a farm in Binghampton because most of these places suck. No need to lie people, just say you like Pizza Hut and move on. The best pie in town is at Mona Lisa in Roswell, believe it!

Fellini’s gets my vote, any location will do.

Oz is good when I’m heading home to West End from the airport but don’t really like the environment.

Tried Slice in Castleberry when they first opened and it took forever to get a to go order. Haven’t been back.

Savage has great pizza. It’s the spicy sauce that makes it (though I know quite a few NYers who cry foul, because it’s not a purist pizza.)

For them NYers, I send them to Camelli’s on Ponce in the Ford Factory Lofts. Great NY slices.

Deep dish? Not much to choose from. the only I know of is Nancy’s. A chain, yes. However, it’s still pretty good.

I like Blue Moon, Grant Central, Slice (both competing chains) and Village. However, I’ve had chewy crust in all of these places. I think I’m just more of a thin crust kind of guy.

The best NY style Pizza by the slice in the Alpharetta area is Momma’s Pizza on Old Milton. It’s got the old NY neighborhood feel. But don’t go until after 7/22 — the place is closed for the owner’s wedding and honeymoon!

For all you ITP’ers out there: I’ve had em all. Fellini’s, Mellow Mushroom, Savage, Front Page, and they’re all good. So are places like Oz, Bella’s, and Capozzi’s. But nothing, nothing is as good as Baby Tommy’s Taste of New York on Cobb Parkway. There’s a few people here who know what I’m talking about. This is the most amazing pizza I’ve ever had, and the hugest slices. Furthermore, it’s traditional New York style pizza, but they have innovation, too. Don’t believe me, try a slice of Chicken Marsala pizza. And wash all down with a Manhattan Special (only place I know where you can get this amazing stuff). Truly, a real New York style place.

There’s a great “authentic” place in Myrtle Beach …fresh mozzarella on a great salad and little yeast rolls appetizers. Very reasonably priced and nice people…we went two days in a row. If you’re going north on the strip, it’s on the right surrounded by fig trees…if you go now, the figs are ripe and ready to pic too.

I go to new york a lot. if new york is the epicenter for “great” pizza, then how come they have so many crappy pizza places?- I mean really bad. my friend, who has been there for more than ten years says he cant find good pizza-that was five years ago, so maybe that has changed. Anyway, The place he likes(amongst many neeew yowkaas)-some place in Brooklyn(dumbo-right on the water)- that is a brick oven place(cant remember the name)……yeah, great…… fresh ingredients, light crust, genuine…. whatever……….it was so bland.

as far as atlanta……. I agree camellis on ponce is some of the best. Fellinis….ayy,ok. mm….ayy, ok. Grant Central is really good. nancy’s……sucks. il bacio…..pretty good…..needs more sauce-good crust. Ellas was good the one time I ate there. I have eaten oz, slice- all good. great? maybe not-i need to try again

but really, you outta towners need to stop waxing poetic. yes, maybe, there are more great pizza places up north in general….whatever, but it may only be %5 or 10%, at most, better. it is not like night and day like you all claim and not much better than these places people have suggested….I mean, what these new yorkers down here are using different ingredients, they are not in the right atmosphere of mafia new york to get it right, they dont have the family secret?…….. give me a break

some good ideas though, i need to try rosas, blue moon, capozzi, bellas.

The BEST NY-style pizza by the slice in Cobb County is BLUE MOON Pizza on the corner of Jiles and Baker Roads in Kennesaw! They’re a new outfit, opened the same weekend of the Super Bowl — which was the same weekend I tried them out. I recommended them to all my friends & family. Now, EVERYONE talks about their pizza. Their slices of pizza are HUMONGOUS and sooo delish! All natural ingredients, and they make it fresh while you wait. They’re only dine-in/carryout right now.

I have a few favorites:

Uncle Vito’s is by far my favorite pizza place - they make their sauce and dough fresh every day.

I’ve been to Pepperoni’s in Duluth a few times and they have excellent pizza.

Marietta Pizza Co. also has awesome pizza - try a slice with chicken and spinach or chicken and artichoke hearts - simply awesome.

I’ve been to Fellini’s a couple of times, but never had the pizza - I always got a calzone.

Higgy’s Pizzeria is a mom and pop New York Style Pizzeria. Their pizza has several herbs and spices in the dough and the crust is to die for! The slices are huge and have tons of flavor. For any of you true New Yorkers Higgy’s Pizzeria uses Grande cheese. (The highest quality cheese out there). The staff is friendly and fast so your not sitting around waiting 30 minutes for a pizza. Higgy’s Pizzeria is off of Highway 155 and Price Quarters Rd. in McDonough. They have an online menu at www.higgyspizzeria.com and their phone number for take out is 770-898-1600.
