Restaurant Go-Round

It started with Pano & Paul’s. Now we’ve got dining dynasties from Bob Amick and Tom Catherall all over the city, and the attitude seems to be out with the old, bring in the new … until another spot opens and like fair weather friends we move on. Is this city big enough for all these new restaurants?

i think it would be nice to see some new restaurants come in, i have a feeling that any of the new “celeb” based restaurants will soon lose their appeal as most celebs are not chefs and a big name does not equal good food…and i think that any new restaurants should avoid the word “fusion” at all costs

Do you mean “is Atlanta big enough for more gimmicky restaurants?” That answer would be yes, as Atlanta dwellers ( ITP and OTP ) are suckers for the latest shiny restaurant object which suspends drink dispensers and rotisserie racks from the ceiling, or squirts an anchovie testicle infused foam dollop onto roasted corn for 25 bucks…..give me a break, give me good food, and for heavens sake, give me a foodie to write reviews, not an AJC critic ( I usually do the opposite of their reviews suggestions and end up enjoying it more. ). BTW, the best new restaurant is JCT.

I say — the more the merrier! Let the diner sort them all out and may the best table win!

I’m tired of the gimmicky restaurants (e.g. Pie Bar - pizza on a cracker). What Atlanta needs is more outside dining and more gay-themed/oriented restaurants. Joe’s on Juniper is a treasure and we need several more like it!

My2Cents - what is a gay themed/oriented restaurant like? Do they serve only gay food? Or maybe they only serve meat from gay animals?

Can you imagine the furor if someone suggested that we need black-themed restuarants, or female-themed restaurants?

What Atlanta needs is a few better pizza places. :-)

Atlanta does not need more restaurants-we need less of them. And more that take reservations. We have too many mexican ones, too many chinese ones and too many sushi ones. What we really need are good Deli’s and Stromboli places. A good NY Knish (onion and mustard) with a large onion, beef and chicken Stromboli-just like on Long Island.

this town needs another gay themed/oriented restaurant about as much as it needs another gay bar with drag performers.

What would be wrong with wanting more restaurants that cater to an African-American customer?

And so you will know a gay oriented restaurant would have fresh food, stylish decor, cute waiters, progressive music that did not drown out conversation, strong cocktails, no children, and no Republicans. Heaven!

There already are restos catered to African-Amer customers Stuart….. it’s called Atlantic Station. All crap all the time. A nice place that was ruined by the ghetto elements far too soon. Too bad for the nice people who bought property that will never appreciate there due to killings, robberies, theft, and assualt. Pssst- remember Buckhead??? And yes, we do need more better ‘za joints ITP.
