Eat local food movement
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Interest in locally grown food is booming.
Armed with studies estimating food travels an average of 1,500 miles between farm and plate, shoppers who once chose organic are now taking a harder look at where that food came from.
Is it better to buy organic produce from large, industrial-scale farms in California, or to support local farmers regardless of whether food is organic, sustainable or conventionally grown?

I think the key is to buy from responsible farmers, no matter where they are located. With that said, there are LOTS of local (North Georgia) farmers who farm organically, are sustainable, and who farm responsibly, so we should have no trouble finding their products. Take a peek at Morningside Farmer’s Market on a warm summer Saturday morning and you’ve got dozens of prime examples. In other words, the question is null for our area of the country. Any old timer who mercilessly swamps his/her crops with pesticides and artificial fertilizers is simply ignorant.
If folks live in an area where this kind of produce is unreachable, by all means they should seek out organic produce from large farms if they desire, it’s just not the most ideal situation.
