Best pub food

Pub food nourishes the soul…. well, maybe it’s not that big, but a neighborhood hangout with good food and cold beer is hard to beat.

Who has the best pub food?

Cheers for the Brick Store Pub! Not only do they have an absolutely awesome Belgian beer selection (I LOVE unfiltered wheat beers!), but the fish n’ chips is to die for. The veggie pita is also extremely good, and I’m a meat and potatoes guy.

Blenderz11 in Centerville is a must try. Their burgers and wings are a treat!

BSP is a great choice. The beer selection is fantastic, ever changing, and original. Add to that the great moderate priced food, a very knowledgeable staff, and a really great atmosphere and you have the perfect pub. Grab a seat in the loft overlooking the downstairs bar, and just watch as your beer is cared for.

Thinking Man Tavern in Decatur is another great choice - cheap good food, neat decor, and a laid-back place to get a patty melt and beer. Every day offers up a new “starving artist” beer, sometimes good, sometimes not - you’ll get a pitcher for 7 bucks. Their patty melt is fantastic, and they potato rounds are awesome.

My husband loves the Brick Store so much we go about once a week. Its great if you don’t mind sitting at the bar, but a lot of times service can be really spotty-especially if you are upstairs in the Belgium beer bar. Its always crowded-something we actually like! More people to watch. Since pubs are a subject of expertise in our household here are my reviews in Decatur:

-The Angel: Over-priced heavy food. Horrid service. And whats with the music selection? Last time we were there they were playing “The Locomotion”. I will never ever go to a pub that plays The Locomotion.

-Corner Pub: Not much of an atmosphere. Its missing a coziness factor. Good food, though.

-James Joyce-Hands down, best veggie soysausage gyro EVER. Good patio. But I don’t know. The crowd is weird. There is this depressing dirty vibe inside. The music is way too loud. Love the patio but I feel like they don’t cater as much to the yuppie Decaturite crowd. Its a little more grungy and I always feel out of place.

-Estoria 97-Just found this place. CHEAP good bar food but very smoky. The bartenders were fun and observant. It’s great people watching too-if you like watching people get really drunk.

-Universal Joint-What happened to this place? We used to go every Thurs but the food has really gone down hill. The servings keep getting smaller and smaller. The service is rude. It takes FOREVER to get a second round of beers on the patio. And bring back the buffalo shrimp quesadillas! Still the best patio in Decatur/Oakhurst, though.

-Twains- With it’s brand new makeover, Twains is a meat market now! Who would have thought? Still the same great, fresh cheap food but I have a problem with this new beer thing they have-microbrews only. Its not human to have a bar in Atlanta that doesn’t serve Sweetwater. And I have yet to drink a pint of their own beer without suffering a massive headache the next day. One beer should not cause this-especially in my husband as well.

Sorry if this is lengthy-I’m stuck in a computer class today and writing pub reviews is much more fun.

Front Page News, either in Little 5 or Midtown, is simply the best!

O’Terrill’s is our neighborhood pub—-love the fish & chips! We also frequent the Spotted Dog on North Avenue quite a bit. It’s housed in an old fire station and offers more ambience than your average pub. Great outdoor seating as well.

Had a very good buffalo chicken sandwich at The Grove (at Lavista and Oakgrove). The menu is pretty basic, but it’s all very reasonably priced (much of it is around 5 or 6 bucks).

Incidentally, I think that The Angel is one of those Derek Lawford chain of pubs (rose & crown, hand in hand, fox and hound, etc.), where the food tends to be quite overpriced.

Actually, I’m happy with Taco mac, my local has almost 100 drafts and the wings are nice. If they could just turn down the bloody TV volume, it would be great.

Read reviews and info about the management of The Real Chow Baby Restaurant in Midtown at the website link. The management of this restaurant is unethical.

When I think of pubs, I don’t think of food. I think of beer. Pub food is notoriously sucky.

I like Taco Mac and Winstons-wish someone had fish and chips like Arthur Treachers. Wings are always a good pub food.

Steinbeck’s in Oakhurst at the corner of East Lake and Oakview is a great hideaway spot with great oysters, seafood and an excellent drink selection. It also houses one of the best old, dark wood bars in the city and is just generally a fun place to have a drink or some food. Parking is pretty easy in the area, too.

BSP is the standard for myself and some of my friends. I usually make it up there at least once a week. My mouth started watering when I thought about their bread bowl of brunswick stew. Or just some fries w/ vinegar. I just wish they had a tv so I could watch some Braves games there.

East Point Corner Tavern if you’re on the southside. The Heidi burger with rings is to die for and the atmosphere is great. Just don’t be offended by the bar wenches. They like to give everyone a good natured hard time. Great place.

That’s easy; Locos Grill and Pub in Buckhead which is followed closely by Locos Grill and Pub in Alpharetta. Best wings & beer selection in the Atl.

I’m probably too familiar with all the pub grub listed by the AJC and I can tell you that the Local has the cheapest food out of all of them. They have great BBQ. It leans towards NC-style, if that’s your preference. The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender and you get two sides! And for those in the know, you can still order the taco salad. When they moved to the new menu, it disappeared, but you can still order one.

My standard includes a great beer selection in addition to the food. Thinking Man’s Tavern Brick Store Pub McRays (6th & Peachtree) Twain’s

All have above average food, service, and beer selection, including micro-brews.

The Highlander in the Midtown shopping center…best tots and grilled cheese in town. Service is good and I swear it never closes.

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the Righteous Room’s food. It’s all very good and worth a visit. Go earlier than the bar crowd though, ‘cause the place isn’t that big.

Nothing is better than good old Meltons. Great wait staff. Love the tuna sandwich with the blanched veggies and ranch dressing. Fast service and just plain old unpretentious. And it’s hard to find an ordinary tuna salad.

I can’t beleive none of you mentioned 5 Seasons. The beer is great and the food even better.

YES to the 5 Seasons, and also to the Vortex. 5 Season’s has great fresh ingredient food, and an ever changing menu. never had a bad meal there.

and since when is Sweetwater not a microbrew? Love me some Sweet Georgia Brown on tap!! but you’d think places would sell SW at a price that’s indicative of it being local.

ummmm, it’s almost 4/20, better grab my 12pak for tomrrow’s festivities!

New pub on Roswell Road near 285 called Charlie Mopps Public House (used to be the Summit). The sweet potato fries and fried string beans are mouth-watering, and the burgers are the best in town. Over 100 beers, most on tap. Great atmosphere and service. My new favorite place.
