Two favorites: Southern Sweets Bakery in Decatur-the name says it all. try the rustic cherry pie Alons is a wonderful choice for breads.

On Edgewood Avenue, you’ll miss it if you don’t know what to look for, there’s a bakery call Our Heavenly Father’s Bakery. Homemade cakes, pies, cookies. The red velvet cakes will make you “slap your mama”. And, the apples pies with homemade lattice pie crust will make you “shout hallelaju”. Well, drop by and see Sister Callie … be prepared for a sermon!

down on the south side of town, in peachtree city, there is a small little bistro called “Grinds & Wines”. They have some wonderful cheesecakes. They offer a white chocolate rasberry cheesecake as well as a chocolate java cheesecake. Both of them are homemade. Also, try their chocolate seduction cake and their strawberry shortcake.

I agree that Southern Sweets in Decature has some of the best cake that I’ve ever had. The Amaretto Butter is to die for—never had anything like it. You want to savor every bite. The Old Fashioned Chocolate cake is delicious, also. My coworkers and I are all hooked. www.southernsweets.com.

Sweet Tooth Bakery on Memorial Drive heading towards I-20. I dont have the exact address but it’s about 1 mile past the Candler Road intersection. If you’ve past the East Lake YMCA you’ve gone too far.

They make homemade pound cakes (I am eating a slice of their lemon pound cake as I type this!), fruit filled pies, bean pies, cheesecake, cookies and brownies.

They are to die for and the prices are reasonable!

Tasteful Expressions 678-508-2866 is a home based business that has the best cakes and desserts that I have ever had! My first experience was at a wedding. Their Signature cake is out of this world! You can taste the REAL butter and the Almond. Its just like grandma use to make. The strawberry cake is divine, and the Chocolate cake…ummmm is all I can say. You can taste the love. I know there are a lot of bakeries out there that are good but this one is by far the best. Try it for yourself. I am sure that you will agree.

I notice no one spoke of any bakeries on the southside of town. In Stockbridge off of Hwy 42 there sits a new bakery/floral shop called Arthur’s Finest. It’s run by two sisters. The Pound Cake and Red Velvet Cake are something to die for (not literally. They even have desserts for Diabetic patients. It’s in the cut but it’s worth the drive believe me.

I’m so glad that Heavenly Father is still around. I lost track of it when it moved from Marietta. They have delicious cakes. I also love Southern Sweets — the rustic apple and cherry pies are delicious and the pecan tart is absolutely to live for!! I love Alon’s cookies but other than that, not so much. I agree that Rhodes on Cheshire Bridge deserves an honorable mention!

Sorry, but must greatly disgree with the poster on Rhodes Bakery. A cousin raved about Rhodes caramel cake and I took one to a birthday party. Yuck!!! Didnt taste any better than a boxed cake. I was downright embarassed. Also, tried some of Rhodes cheese straws, which i later discovered on the package label to have been made with margarine!! . Any Southerner knows that they are made ONLY with butter.

Keith, put your post somewhere appropriate or get a PR agent to pitch the story about your book to “living” or something. A blog about southern treats isn’t the place for this and it’s an unwelcome intrusion.

Eagle’s Landing Cafe in Lawrenceville, Ga has the best Bread Pudding around. It is topped with a warm Amaretta sauce and served with freash cream. A close second and not to be forgotten is the Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie.

I can’t believe noone has mentioned Little European Bakery in Roswell…..formerly Bruhweiler’s, which was formerly Hofer’s Bakery - everything is delicious!…..

One place I will warn you AGAINST going is “My Bakery” in Woodstock! Lotsa bucks for just plain YUK!
