Mom and boutique owner Melissa Murdock is prepared for today's rush of men and children seeking Mother's Day mementos at Sandpiper, which has locations in Vinings and Sandy Springs.

"One thing that I really, really like and recommend are super-fast wine chillers," Fatima Mehdikarimi said. "A lot of people bring wine as hostess gifts. It would be a way to chill the wine very, very quickly."

The collection has screen-printed images or hand-stitched items and sayings such as "Well Just Bless Your Little Heart" and "The Holy Southern Casserole." "Everybody has a great pair of jeans, so everybody needs a cool T-shirt for summer to go with the jeans. Because they're made here [in Atlanta], I think that makes them a little special," boutique owner Melissa Murdock said.

The scent

Lemon grass lime collection by New York-based Michel Design Works. Ed Maddox, co-owner of Sophisticated Swine in Cumming, said that the new fragrance line and other flavors, such as papaya mango, have been selling well. The handmade candles are 100 percent soy wax. The collection includes candles, diffusers, soaps, lotions, hand washes, home fragrance sprays, scented notecards and napkins.

An iPod dock and speaker that plays downloaded tunes and podcasts wherever mom needs to be. That system, sold at Best Buy, comes in a colorful hard case and has a 24-hour battery life.

The cleaner's best friend

Lotus Sanitizing System, which touts the ability to use only water to clean 99.9 percent of bacteria and pesticides on food. The system is described as turning tap water into a type of "super oxygen" that also can deodorize countertops and floors and remove mildew, stains and mold. It's a great idea for a mom into the green movement because Fatima Mehdikarimi said it cleans your fruits and veggies as well as your home without chemicals.
