NEWS FOR KIDS
fun lesson: Teacher approves clowning around during this classIf you're out for spring break in early April, you can learn to be a clown. Mr. Tone, a friendly guy who sometimes wears a big painted smile, used to teach clowns for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and now he's teaching Georgia kids.
Young clowns in training will learn to make balloon animals, juggle and do magic tricks. There will be funny skits with music. You'll also learn to use makeup to create your own special clown face to fit your personality.
The Clownology 101 Workshop will be at Theatre Decatur on April 7-11 from 10 a.m. to noon. Kids can sign up for one day's session or for all five.
Kids can also watch Mr. Tone in action at the theater on the first Saturday of every month this year at 1:30 p.m. Watch out! You might even get a pie in the face. (Yum!) The "Music, Magic and Fun Show" is kind of like a game show led by a clown. The kids and parents in the audience are a big part of the show. Tickets are $6 and infants can be brought in for free.
The theater is located at 430 Trinity Place. The phone number there is 404-373-3904.
To sign up for the workshop, your parents can call the theater or e-mail Tone Lane (Mr. Tone's real name) at tone@clownology101.com. The workshop costs $185 for a full week or $40 for each session. Suggested ages are 7 to 12.
