Castleberry Hill adds boutiques to eclectic mix

Here's the full disclosure. I live in Castleberry Hill.

I've lived in the area for about a year but only recently discovered the shopping available within just a few blocks.

In recent months, a half-dozen stores selling everything from handmade semiprecious jewelry to natural skin and body care have found a home among the lofts, art galleries and night spots in the historic neighborhood. The most recent addition, Adrene Boutique, is the second store for owner Adrene Ashford (the first is in East Atlanta Village). The racks of tops, bottoms, dresses and denim at the Castleberry store are higher-end, Ashford said, with gear such as a thermal-style shirt bearing a crest and crystal embellishments for $80 by Rebel Spirit for men, and a black and white strapless maxi dress for $139 by Oxford Circus for women.

Most of the stores in Castleberry have late hours, no doubt to entice revelers from nearby restaurants and bars to make a stop.

One of the best times to visit is during the Castleberry Art Stroll on the fourth Friday of the month. Crowds can get thick, so shoppers seeking a less energetic excursion should visit another time.

The neighborhood soon will welcome more retail when a new development, Castleberry Point Lofts, opens this summer with restaurants (including one from the owners of Apres Diem), galleries and businesses, including Lush Life nail spa and a clothing store for men and women. Stay tuned.
