WHERE CAN I FIND IT?

Sun protector, Goya salt and everything in between

Q: I have been trying to find a plastic sun protector that clips onto sunglasses to cover the nose. I saw one a few years ago, and it was white plastic that was thick enough to rest on the nose without blowing off on a windy day but lightweight enough not to be bothersome. It completely covered the nose. It was an excellent sun protector, especially for people who have suffered with skin cancer on the nose or have problems using sunscreen. I would be so appreciative if you could help me locate this.

A: Lisa, I found a sun protection nose guard that sounds exactly like the one you describe. It's endorsed by the American Alpine Institute and clips onto any type of sunglasses. It's made of nylon and moisture wicking faux chamois. The protector is hand washable and designed to stay in place even for active sports such as cycling and snow skiing. It's available in different sizes for $6.50 through www.sungrubbies.com.

Q: I used to buy a product called Dawn Fresh. It was gravy and mushrooms in a can. It was absolutely the best gravy ever made. Can you do some research on this product and let me know if it still exists? Thank you for your time. Anxiously waiting to hear.

A: Dawn Fresh Giorgio mushroom steak sauce comes in a 6-ounce can and can be found on aisle two at Kroger, 1750 Hudson Bridge Road, Stockbridge, 770-507-7732. Dawn Fresh mushroom steak sauce sells for 79 cents.

Q: I am looking for something for my husband. He cannot find this and he loves to shine his shoes with it. It is a piece of wood about 5 to 6 inches long with lambswool attached to it, and it is used to shine shoes. Years ago you could find them in shoe stores and shoe repair stores. I would be grateful if you can assist me in this search.

DOT BLUM, Smyrna

A: Well, Dot, in searching for the buffer, I called a major shoe store and repair shop and was told that several of the store's customers also were looking for the lambswool shoe shine buffer. While they may be rare locally, they're available online. You can order the buffer, which is about 7 inches long, through www.shoetreemarketplace.com or by calling 1-866-291-8472 Each one costs $6.99.

Q: First of all, let me say, I love reading your column in the paper every week. Recently, I am having trouble finding Goya salt. All the other salts are pretty salty and I think Goya salt is better than all other salts. I was able to find it once at Mercado del Pueblo, but that is a hit or a miss. I want to know where can I find it every time.

ITI SODHANI, Roswell

A: Give the market another try. I recently found plenty of 26-ounce cartons of Goya iodized salt on the shelves. If you're worried that the store might not restock in a timely manner, then you could stock up. Each carton costs 99 cents at Mercado del Pueblo, 649 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell, 770-998-1722.

Q: Our sources for buying live blue crabs — Harry's and DeKalb Farmer's Market — seem to have dried up. Are there any markets on the north side of Atlanta still selling them? Thanks for any help.

LYNN HAMMOND, Canton

A: I spoke with someone at Harry's in Alpharetta and was told that live blue crabs now are available only by the case — about 40 pounds or so. There are several reasons for this, but one of them is that the store ended up with dead blue crabs when parents allowed their children to play with the poor creatures as if they were wind-up toys. I've seen them do this, and I suspect you have as well. The good news, however, is that you can still get your fill of live blue crabs. Check out Buford Highway Farmer's Market, 5600 Buford Highway, Atlanta, 770-455-0770. The huge market sells live blue crabs for $2.99 per pound.
