Cut the thick flower stalks of hardy amaryllis down to their base. Leave the foliage in place for the rest of the summer.
Bermuda, zoysia, centipede and St. Augustine lawns can be aerated now. Don’t stop until you have at least 10 holes per square foot of lawn.
WEEK 2
Lawn tips
Clip faded peony blooms, and give your plants fertilizer and water so they can gather energy for next year’s grand show.
Though they look similar, Bermuda grass and zoysia grass lawns are not managed the same. Download xrl.us
/lawncalendar for lawn care tips.
WEEK 3
Coffee time
Coffee grounds are a fine source of organic matter for your soil or compost pile. Ask your local coffee shop for its castoffs.
Snakes, possums or wild birds becoming a problem in your landscape? Download Dealing With Nuisance Wildlife at xrl.us/nuisanceanimals.
WEEK 4
Clear out bugs
Pull the webs of fall webworm caterpillar out of trees whenever seen. Wasps and hornets will quickly clean out the rest of the nest for you.
Palmetto bugs can be a summertime nuisance. Get bait stations designed for large roaches and place them near doors and windows in your house.
Listen to Walter Reeves from 6 to 10 Saturday mornings on WSB-AM (750). Go to Gardening Georgia for details or visit his Web site, Walter Reeves.
