Take a seat at Kennesaw’s Comfortable Chair Store

Sixteen years ago, Craig and Julia Daniels’ Kennesaw store sold only rocking chairs. But the demand for the wood rockers gradually diminished, and the couple stayed in business by expanding the store’s options. Today, they’re busy offering customers a range of seating options under the name The Comfortable Chair Store.
It’s the kind of shop where buyers come in and linger, moving from chair to chair to check out seats, arm rests, leg rests and neck supports. The selection still includes rockers but has branched out to embrace classic club chairs, recliners, home theater seats and power-assisted chairs for those who need a boost to stand up.

Customers can have chairs custom made with a variety of fabrics, designs, arm rests and other features. Delivery takes about two weeks.
“The best and worst thing we do is give people a lot of choices,” said Craig Daniels with a laugh. “There are so many different chairs, with so many different feels and proportions, you have to check them all out.”
Finding the most comfortable fit often means helping shoppers redefine how they think about chairs, said Craig Daniels. “A lot of it has to do with proportion. You don’t have to have your feet dangling off a chair that was built to hold someone who’s 6-feet-4. And you don’t have to buy a chair just because it matches the sofa. You can find something that fits your decor and is comfortable at the same time.”
What you’ll find
Chairs come in contemporary and traditional styles from major brands that provide warranties on their products. Brazilian cherry rockers, with slatted backs or woven wicker seats, sell from $299. Chairs for home theaters, complete with leg rests and drink holders, come with one or two arms or curved sides that create a semicircle when lined up. Buyers can mix and match to create their own configuration. Theater seating is usually sold in pairs, starting at $500.
Classic club chairs, recliners, gliders and extra-wide chaises come in an assortment of fabrics, including high-end vinyls, leather and microfibers. There’s also a broad selection of seat and back cushions.
Power-assisted chairs can be customized as well. They come with a variety of options to suit the customer’s needs, from lifts and swivels to models that completely recline — ideal for napping.
Most custom chairs can be delivered within two weeks.
Trends
What started out as a store exclusively for rocking chairs has kept up with the times by focusing on the needs of today’s buyers. They’re looking for indoor rockers, as well as styles that fit on the front porch, and aging shoppers are in the market for power-assisted chairs. They’re also looking for custom options that allow them to blend their special seat into an existing room’s decor.
Best sellers
Glider rockers are the top models in the store. Styles with wide armrests and tall backs are particularly popular for nurseries, said Craig Daniels.
The wood-framed styles are the most popular because they can be fitted with matching cushions that can be changed out when the chair moves to another part of the house. Other hot items are the home theater chairs.
