ATLANTA SHOPPING
Designer reproductions blend with solid styles

After three years of running a cyberstore, Todd Anthony opened a showroom close to downtown Atlanta. The concrete floored space called Todd Anthony Home was formerly a mechanic’s shop, which explains the glass garage doors across the front. Inside, shoppers will find furniture and decor items imported from China.
“We carry reproductions of designer furniture that’s much more expensive,” said Anthony. “Buyers come in here and are thrilled to find the same styles and designs at big savings.”

This classically styled, wood-framed, oval-backed chair has a silk and rayon cushion and back. It continually ‘flies out the door,’ Anthony says. Shoppers who visit his store aren’t looking for trendy, he says.

Beds with wood-framed upholstered head and foot boards are also among the leading sellers. The wood is dark birch and beds come in queen or king sizes.
Most of the pieces share an Art Deco flair. “But we’re also a little Streamline Moderne and that works well with any style,” said Anthony.
What you’ll find
Dining and coffee tables, sideboards, armchairs, dining chairs, beds, armoires and shelves are among the biggest pieces in stock. Many have a similar shape or design, using the same wood and hardware. Particularly popular are the tassle-like pulls on the drawers of end tables, buffets and nightstands. Several tables in the same walnut veneers come in oval, square and round shapes. Framed artworks, lamps, desks, silk florals and candlesticks are also on display. The store’s inventory can also be ordered online and shipped.
Trends
The fad here is: no fads. Shoppers who come in for the designer look aren’t into anything trendy, said Anthony. “This is a style that’s been solid for a long time, and they like that,” he said. “We specialize in pieces that are easy to blend.”
Best-sellers
There are several pieces that continually fly out the door, said Anthony. The first is a classically styled, oval-backed armchair with a wood frame, priced at $1,079. It comes with a seat and back covered in a beige silk and rayon fabric.
Another leading seller is a bed with upholstered head and foot boards with a soft, padded insert outlined in dark birch. Queens go for $1,599; kings, $1,699. A chest that works well in a foyer, dining room or bedroom is also a big seller. Its diamond-patterned front is finished in black with red highlights. A sideboard with unfolding leaves for additional serving space and a tray between the legs for bottle storage is another hit, selling at $899. The most popular coffee table is a rectangular “Hershey bar brown” design with shelves for storage.
