After a year in a smaller space off Roswell Road, Kathleen Welch shifted her Cinnamon and Sage store to the opposite side of the Marietta Square two weeks ago. Shoppers will now find a larger, brighter space for home decor and gift items from around the globe.
“I’ve wanted to do a store like this since I got out of college 20 years ago,” the Marietta resident said. “After a year in the first space, it was time to move on.”

Canisters, bakeware and rustic armoires are among the wide range of items available at Cinnamon and Sage’s new location.
The new location is part of the Church Street row of merchants that includes antiques dealers and gourmet food stores. In Welch’s space, the focus is on unusual accent pieces such as Italian pewter and painted plates from Zimbabwe.
“A lot of people who come in seeing French country, but I’m not sure I do,” Welch said with a laugh.
What you’ll find
The store carries an array of silk floral arrangements, from a cluster of white roses in a silver vase to colorful sprays in urns.
Arte Italica pieces from Italy include a pewter vase ($139.50), an oil and vinegar set with ceramic cruets, and a ceramic salt and pepper shaker set in a pewter holder.
The Penzo collection of dishware from Zimbabwe includes hand-painted bowls ($40), mugs, jugs, butter dishes and more, decorated with wildlife and flora in vivid colors.
Fans of some colleges, including Georgia Tech, will find plates, mugs, towels, platters and more emblazoned with the logos of their home teams.
The store also stocks welcome mats edged with ribbons; three-tiered bath shelves for soaps and towels; glass vases with baked-on designs; dish ware; canisters; teacups and teapots. Rustic armoires, chests, cabinets and tables are scattered throughout.
Trends
“People really like to see their own initials!” said Welch, who stocks a variety of monogrammed items: stationery, napkins, soaps, linen coats and soda can wraps.
While they’re shopping for home items, they’re also looking for baby items, said Welch, who sells plush towels, toys and blankets with teddy bear heads attached. “The baby section has a life of its own,” she said. “I can’t believe how popular it is.”
Best sellers
Scented candles in four sizes from the Tyler Candle Co. are hard to keep on the shelves. Designed with one, two or three wicks, the floral and musk scents come with amusing names, from High Maintenance to 24/7 Glam Girl and Beach Blonde. Prices range from $2 to $19.50.
Other top sellers are any pieces of bakeware.
“People don’t want place settings, but go for these very pretty dishes with scalloped edges,” Welch said.
