It’s a family affair at Accentrics Design, the decor and design store in Alpharetta. Owner Carol McClure has been in the business for almost 30 years and now runs her shop with the help of daughter Alison Baker and daughter-in-law Laney McClure. “And I’m moving in on my granddaughters,” said Carol McClure with a laugh.
Together, the three manage a store stocked with furniture and accessories divided into color and subject zones. Baker is the designer and creates many of the fabrics and looks for the store and works with clients to customize items from sofas to silk florals. In addition, the store features furniture lines from small manufacturers who can create their items in a variety of sizes and colors to suit a client’s needs. A sample sofa with a custom-made covering is tagged at $4,200; another with a chocolate chenille cover and down-filled cushions is $3,340. An armchair with a down cushion, $1,670. Tables start at $200.
What you’ll find
Around the shop floor, room vignettes are divided by sheer gauze curtains made of two panels, each of a different shade. Sofas, chairs, throws and pillows show off a variety of colors and textures. The “cuddle couch” is a popular piece, a shortened loveseat with room for two to squeeze side by side. Tables, ranging from small accent pieces to ones large enough to form a kitchen island, come in various paint shades and styles. Candle holders, diffusers, a small selection of linens, mirrors and clocks are also on display.
Trends
The owners work with a growing number of homeowners who are getting into the natural look and working to incorporate new pieces into their existing schemes. “They’re realizing that things don’t have to match,” said Baker. “But at the same time, they’re going for a cleaner look that’s not overdone, using pieces they appreciate.”
Buyers still lean toward some Tuscan and French influences, particularly in colors and artwork, but buyers are definitely moving away from the deep jewel tones of the 1980s, said Laney McClure.
Best-sellers
If it can hang on the wall, it heads out the door. The store’s artworks in various sizes and styles are among the most popular items. Custom-made floral arrangements and lamps are a close second.
