WHERE TO FIND IT

Warehouse features home, garden items

Published on: 04/05/07

Put on your walkin' shoes. The Hill Street Warehouse, tucked behind the Chattahoochee Avenue shopping district, is more than 50,000 square feet of home and garden decor items. The 17-year-old business started off only using part of the space, but has expanded over the years to fill every square inch.

What you'll find

IF YOU GO

Where: 2050 Hills Avenue, Atlanta, 30318 • Information: 404-352-5001 http://www.hillstreetwarehouse.com • Hours: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday • The sale: The warehouse's spring sale runs April 25 through 29. It's the only time when the store is open on Sunday. • In the area: The shops and outlets along Chattahoochee Avenue are around the corner. If you're in the mood for food, plan a pit stop to Nuevo Laredo Cantina, noted for its authentic dishes prepared by Mexican cooks.

Maybe that should be, "What won't you find?" Love seats, leather chairs, lamps and shades, glassware, imported earthenware, throw rugs, candlesticks, candles, tables, clocks, silk florals and framed artworks are among the items packed into the space. Prices range from 25 cents for votive candles to $5,000.

Part of the warehouse is devoted to a gardening gallery. Pick up terra cotta pots; a wrought-iron café table for the patio; or the smiling sculpture of an angel to place between the rose bushes. And each season, the store stocks holiday-related items. With Easter around the corner, pick up deviled egg dishes; giant stuffed Easter bunnies; egg-shaped soaps; pastel-colored candles; and baskets.

Best sellers

The decorative accessories are among the store's top sellers, said manager Kim Gardner. Lamps, mirrors, pictures and frames (particularly as gifts) are big. Buyers also go for the furniture pieces — hutches, desks, armoires, end tables, coffee tables and ottomans, that start at $99 and go up to $700.

Hot trends

With the warm weather moving in, buyers are going for the garden items. "We stock the largest selection of terra cotta in the Southeast," said Gardner. "It's all imported from Italy. You can pick something up for $5 or $5,000."
