Be picky about deciding what to store. The closet should contain only items for your personal indoor life, including sheets and towels.
Put seasonal items up high. While everyday items should be at eye level, the hard-to-reach top shelf is perfect for flannel sheets and beach towels. Bulky items can be stowed in vacuum-compressed bags.
Use the back of the closet door for added space. Hang freshly washed hand towels and sheets from rods.
Stow heavy items at the bottom of your closet. Covered and labeled tubs prevent accumulation and protect items in this dust-prone area.
Most medicines need a cool, dry place. Move meds out of the bathroom and into the linen closet. Use a double-decker lazy Susan (the kind often used to hold spices) for hassle-free access.
Make it nice. Consider lining shelves with pretty paper and storing soaps in an open container for a clean look and scent.
Limited closet space? Consider storing items elsewhere if they're not used as often. Keep a basketful of necessities for guests in their room. Store seasonal items in another closet. Remind yourself where these items are by affixing a label inside your closet door.
