From Market to Kitchen
NEW AND NOWThe condiment doctor is in
Dr. Pete's, the Savannah-based gourmet food company, makes a delicious Praline Mustard sauce that's become the go-to glaze for hams at my house. Another condiment, the Chipotle Grilling Sauce, is just as versatile and delicious. Poured over a block of cream cheese, it's a fast appetizer for a party. Brushed on grilled chicken or shrimp, it's a complex, sweet yet spicy way to goose up flavor. $6.99 for an 8-ounce jar at Cook's Warehouse in Midtown, Brookhaven and Decatur. Also at the DeKalb Farmers Market.
Oh, brother: Mustard is a match for meat
If regular mustards seem too tame, there's a Lusty Monk waiting for you. Oh, we know. Fear not. Lusty Monk Original Sin is a coarse-ground mustard that's fresh enough to bring tears to your eyes, and sturdy enough to stand up to bratwursts and spiced meats. It's good at enhancing bland choices like hot dogs, too, although a bit overpowering for deli meats.
The mustard is made in Asheville, N.C. An 8-ounce jar is $6.50 at Star Provisions in west Midtown. The refrigerated mustard is also available at Sawicki's in Decatur, and Savor, Belly General Store and the Cabbagetown Market in Atlanta. www.lustymonk.com
