Potato prices going up; onions a bargain

For the Journal-Constitution
Published on: 06/19/08

Tomato prices are dropping because of the outbreak of salmonella in romas and round. Cherry tomato prices are going up, and local tomatoes are considered safe in all varieties. Look for supplies of red potatoes to dwindle after next week, and supplies of other varieties are already tight and expensive. For some onion growers, prices are lower than production costs, and we may see some leaving their crop in the field.
