Paula Deen and sons to headline cooking show in Cobb
Metro Atlanta earns reputation as great 'foodie city'

If it has to do with food (or drink), chances are it'll be on display at the Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show May 3-4 at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

A glance at the list of 150-plus food companies, caterers, kitchen designers and appliance manufacturers who will be exhibiting their wares reveals the expected Viking appliances and Trader Joe's. But don't overlook Palmetto Pepper Potions or the Tootie Pie Co.

Then there are the chefs: Food Network stars and authors Paula Deen and sons Jamie and Bobby Deen are headlining the show, which was launched two years ago in Washington by Denise Medved of Tiny Kitchen fame (the Tiny Kitchen Cooking & Entertaining, www.tinykitchen.com). This is Medved's first foray out of D.C.

"Atlanta is a fun city, a social city, a foodie city," said Medved. "I think people there have a real appreciation for food because of that great Southern hospitality."

Deen will host already sold-out luncheons and hold cooking demonstrations both days, as will her sons. Watershed's Scott Peacock will host a class in which he demonstrates how to make biscuits, breakfast shrimp and other goodies. (Both the Deens' and Peacock's classes cost extra.) Also appearing are Atlanta chefs Tom Harvey of One, Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene, Jeremy Lieb of Trois and cooking instructor and cookbook author Virginia Willis.

Tickets are $20 to see the exhibits and presentations and attend most workshops. Beer and wine tasting, cooking classes and kids classes cost extra. Eveningedge.com, a product of The Atlanta-Journal Constitution, is the main sponsor.
