A Powder Springs neighborhood offered proximity to Janet Moore’s relatives and more activities for her to enjoy retirement. Moore, 65, who worked for Fulton County Superior Court for 34 years, chatted about her ranch condo in the gated Villas of Seven Springs West.

Q. Where did you move from?

A. South Fulton County.

How did you find the neighborhood?

I have a nephew that lives out here in Powder Springs. His wife is actually the one that found the place. She got [a mailing promoting the community] and knew I was looking for something. She came over here and got the floor plans and mailed them to me.

What did you like about the floor plans?

I love the sunroom. The sunroom is where I live; it has 10 windows in it. I have an entertainment center, love seat, chair, table and chest. The sunroom has French doors that go into the living room. The living room, dining room and kitchen are all just one big open room.

What’s it like to live in the community?

We have a lot of community parties. The last Friday of every month, the ladies have what we call a “chat and chew.” The ladies just go down there and eat their lunch and talk and visit. We typically have a party every other month. A Super Bowl party will be our first party after Christmas. We’ve started a game night once a month. We’re going to start a book club.

Where have the neighbors moved from?

We have people from the metro area; we have people from California, Florida, New York, Utah. It’s just a diverse group of people. We have some people in their 50s, some in their 60s, some in their 70s and some in their 80s. It doesn’t matter about the age. Everybody just enjoys being together. Age doesn’t enter into it out here.

How is the neighborhood different from where you previously lived?

When it’s completely finished, there will not be any more than 80 families. I moved from a condominium complex that had 350, so you didn’t really get to know your neighbors like you do here.

What is desirable about the location?

It’s just a neat little town. We’ve got great restaurants out here — Johnny’s Bar-B-Que, Hunt’s Restaurant. We’re centrally located between Arbor Place Mall [in Douglasville] and Town Center Mall [in Kennesaw].
