It will be a zoo at Zoo Atlanta this week.

It's spring break, and local tourist attractions -- from Stone Mountain to the Inside CNN Tour -- are expecting to get slammed by visitors the next four days.

The Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola have extended their operating hours, and zoo officials are expecting to more than quadruple the zoo's normal average daily attendance of about 1,800 to 2,500 visitors.

In fact, everyone at the zoo is being pressed into service, from seasonal workers to top executives, said Cary Burgess, senior vice president of operations.

"We have an all-hands-on-deck mentality," said Burgess, explaining that staffers are being asked to help pick up trash, guide visitors and ride MARTA or car pool to make more parking spaces available for guests. "It's really a team effort. We have asked everyone to wear their zoo uniform this week instead of their business attire."

Students in several metro Atlanta school systems are out this week, including those in Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Henry, Cherokee, Gwinnett and Fayette counties and Atlanta City Schools.

Families slowly came out Monday, mostly waiting to see what the weather would do, attractions officials said.

CNN, which usually draws a mixture of families and conventioneers, is seeing a definite tilt toward school groups or parents and their children this week, said Bill McElhaney, director of CNN Tours.

The aquarium attracted its usual crowds of youngsters fascinated by whale sharks.

World of Coke's Jaquie Wansley said the attraction is having a fantastic spring.

"We are real excited to see the crowds out in the World of Coca-Cola this season," she said, explaining the museum is on track to have 1.2 million visitors its first year.

"It has been a wonderful spring for us, which has set the stage for a wonderful summer."

While the week is off to a strong start at Stone Mountain Park, officials expect it to get even stronger as the week wears on, said Kelly Swann, a spokeswoman for the DeKalb County destination. "We expect a steady climb with an influx at the end of the week," she said.
