Week 6 Pick 'Em Game Update

This weekend, SECond2none won the week with 160 points in the pick 'em game. The 12-point margin of victory isn't quite Bayloresque, but it was enough to provoke a change at the top: SECond2none, 1080 points cocknfire's pick, 1070 points Darth Saban's Death Star, 1062 points Jams' mediocre picks, 1040 ...

Georgia Loses Marshall, Scott-Wesley For Season

As feared, Georgia's Keith Marshall is gone for the season after tearing his ACL in UGA's overtime win over Tennessee. He had the look of a guy lost for the season on the sideline, with coaches and teammates coming by to console their morose teammate. Todd Gurley remains day-to-day with his ...

Topics for Discussion: The Most Surprising Team and the Health of Georgia and Jadeveon Clowney

Who is your surprise team in the SEC? Auburn is suddenly looking like the fourth-best team in the SEC West, which isn't all that bad when you consider their competition. Missouri is 5-0 as they head to Georgia next week with a chance to prove once and for all that ...

Missouri Tigers 51, Vanderbilt Commodores 28: When Do We Start to Take Missouri Seriously?

There will be an undefeated team at Sanford Stadium next Saturday. But it won't be the Georgia Bulldogs, widely acknowledged as contenders for the SEC title and, if everything breaks the right way, a national championship. Instead, it will be the Missouri Tigers, who have quietly put together a 5-0 ...

South Carolina Gamecocks 35, Kentucky Wildcats 28: Identity Crisis

When a team gets near the halfway point of the season and you still have the same questions or complaints about the team that you had after the first game, it might be time to admit that you've hit upon the team's identity. And it's time to admit that this ...

LSU Tigers 59, Mississippi St. Bulldogs 26: Another Big LSU Win, But Questions for the Tigers

In some respects, LSU on Saturday looked a lot like the team that impressed so many of us in the first few games of the season. Zach Mettenberger was 25-of-29 for 340 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Jeremy Hill ran for 157 yards and two more touchdowns on 16 ...

Auburn Tigers 30, Ole Miss Rebels 22: The Tigers Serve Notice That They're Playing for Keeps

Maybe it's unfair to suggest that Auburn has finally proven its bona fides as a good team in the crowded SEC West. After all, even before tonight's victory against Ole Miss, the Tigers were putting together a strong of solid (but not spectacular) wins, with their only loss coming against ...

Florida 30, Arkansas 10: Gators Win Sloppy Game

In an ugly game in Gainesville, Florida pulled away in the second half to defeat Arkansas 30-10. Loucheiz Purifoy was the man of the first half, with a number of key plays involving him. He had a sack and strip of Arkansas's Brandon Allen, leading to a Florida recovery. He ...

Georgia Bulldogs 34, Tennessee Volunteers 31 (OT): Georgia Survives the Tennessee Game. For Now

In one sense, Georgia fans can probably be encouraged by what their team accomplished Saturday. On the road, with several key players lost to injury and a hostile crowd fired up by the changing events, Georgia weathered a furious comeback attempt by Tennessee and pulled out the win. Essentially everything ...

Late Game Previews: Arkansas-Florida, Ole Miss-Auburn, Mizzou-Vanderbilt and S.C.-Kentucky

Ed Note: More weekend travel compels me to distill the last few previews. There is no travel next week, though, so this will probably be the last time Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Florida Gators, 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2: It's hard to say that Arkansas has come crashing down to Earth since ...

LSU Tigers vs. Mississippi St. Bulldogs Preview: Another Ugly Installment of Futile Rivalry

LSU Tigers vs. Mississippi St. Bulldogs, 7 p.m. ET, ESPN If there's one annual SEC game that gives Kentucky-Florida a run for its money in terms of futility for one of the teams, it's Mississippi State-LSU. And it's not just that the last Bulldogs win in the series came when ...

Georgia Bulldogs vs. Tennessee Volunteers Preview: The Letdown Game That Probably Won't Happen

Georgia Bulldogs vs. Tennessee Volunteers, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS If you were looking for a perfect letdown game for Georgia, this would pretty much fit the bill. The toughest stretch of the Bulldogs' schedule by far is behind them; by making it out of that part of the slate with ...

Cupcake Wars: The Cupboard is Almost Bare

Georgia State vs. Alabama, 12:21 p.m. ET, SECTVNETWORKJEFFERSONPILOT Fortunately, Alabama is the only team this week playing a cupcake. But boy is it a cupcake. Georgia State is not technically an FBS team, because they are reclassifying. They have one rushing touchdown in four games. This is their fourth season. ...

SEC Football Saturday, Week 6: Ole Miss Faces Auburn, LSU Against Mississippi State in SEC West Battles

The games in the SEC East are relatively quiet, but the SEC West gears up with Ole Miss facing Auburn in a potential offensapalooza and Mississippi State trying to beat LSU for once. GAME OF THE WEEK Ole Miss at Auburn, 7:00 pm ET, ESPNU There are two games that ...

The End of SEC Defense or the Beginning of SEC Offense?

If there has been one bulwark of the SEC's claim to dominance over college football the last seven years, it has largely been defense. With the exception of Auburn's 2010 national championship win -- powered by the once-a-generation talent of Cam Newton -- most of the teams that have won ...

Year2's Week 6 Picks

Last Week: 7-1 straight up, 4-3-1 against the spread Season: 45-5 straight up, 24-16-1 against the spread As always, the lines come from the Yahoo! pick 'em game except where noted. Alabama (-55.5) over Georgia State 41-0 I'm not sure what the point is of coming up with lines for ...

SEC Television Schedule, Week 6

GAME OF THE WEEK Ole Miss at Auburn, 7:00 pm ET, ESPNU There are two games that are going to go a long way in helping sort out divisional order this weekend. This is one of them. It also features two head coaches who like uptempo offense. It could be ...

Report: Alabama Asst. Strength Coach Provided Money for Clinton-Dix

Tommy Deas and Aaron Suttles are reporting that the reason why Alabama placed assistant strength coach Corey Harris on administrative leave is that he provided money to safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix: Harris made a short-term loan to Clinton-Dix in an amount less than $500 at some point in the summer, an ...

Catching you up on some of the best stuff around the SB Nation about the SEC Ole Miss football players accused of disrupting 'Laramie Project' performance: We're already beginning to hear that the earlier reports might have been a bit overblown, but this is still something to keep an eye ...

The NCAA's Proposed Baseball Change and the Return of Gorilla Ball

Baseball is probably the furthest thing from most SEC fans' minds right now -- we are in the middle of football season -- but changes to college baseball are being considered that would wipe out most of the progress made towards a more rational game over the last several years. ...

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
