SEC REWIND

What we learned No team is the same year to year and no team is the same even week to week in the SEC. But Georgia’s defensive struggles now look like a given each week until some of the defenders start playing like SEC players. The survival test at Tennessee, ...

Injury news "heartbreaking" for Bulldogs

ATHENS -- After enumerating Georgia's laundry list of injuries on Sunday, coach Mark Richt settled on one word to describe the way it left him feeling. "Heartbreaking." Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray (11), center, looks for a receiver as Georgia Bulldogs running back Brendan Douglas (22) runs a route as Tennessee Volunteers linebacker Dontavis Sapp (41) defends in the first half of their game at Neyland Stadium Saturday afternoon in Knoxville, Tn., October 5, 2013.

Beat-up Bulldogs kick their way out of Knoxville

Georgia coach Mark Richt arrived at his postgame news conference Saturday hobbled and bleeding. It was only fitting after he watched his bruised and battered Bulldogs prevail in overtime against Tennessee, 34-31. Richt pinched a finger on his left hand moving a chair to sit down and address reporters following ...

From the press box high atop Neyland Stadium.

Way up high on Rocky Top

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Greetings from my perch high atop Neyland Stadium. I’m here to chronicle today’s football competition between the No. 6-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0 SEC) and the unranked Tennessee Volunteers. As you may have heard, Tennessee has a really big stadium here on the banks of the Tennessee ...

Mississippian Crowder kickstarts Georgia soccer

Having been at Georgia four seasons now, soccer coach Steve Holeman doesn’t weird out nearly as much as he once did about playing Ole Miss, where he coached for 15 years. As for his dynamic young star from the Magnolia State, Sunday’s game against the Rebels will definitely feel strange.Georgia ...

With Todd Gurley questionable, Keith Marshall (4) will likely carry the load against Tennessee.

GEORGIA GAMEDAY

Bulldogs guard against more heartbreak on Rocky Top

Georgia QB Aaron Murray.

Murray set to break SEC record for passing yards

At some point in Saturday’s game — probably early — Georgia’s Aaron Murray figures to break the SEC career record for passing yards. He’ll begin the game at Tennessee only 99 yards short of the record held by former Georgia quarterback David Greene. “I’m excited for him,” Greene said this ...

Georgia safety Josh Harvey-Clemons is coming off a 15-tackle, two pass-breakup performance against LSU.

Josh Harvey-Clemons growing into defensive role

ATHENS – This is not what Josh Harvey-Clemons signed up for, but he’s loving it nonetheless. The sophomore from Valdosta signed with Georgia as a ballyhooed outside linebacker with designs on chasing quarterbacks for his books and board. Instead, the 6-foot-5, 222-pound athlete has found himself traipsing all over the field ...

Bulldogs add safety Tray Matthews to injury list

Georgia tailback Todd Gurley was unable to practice again Wednesday, but that may not be the Bulldogs’ biggest injury issue entering Saturday’s game against Tennessee. Tray Matthews, a freshman and the Bulldogs’ starter at free safety, suffered another hamstring injury Tuesday and was unable to practice Wednesday, coach Mark Richt ...

Tray Matthews joins Todd Gurley on sidelines

ATHENS -- Georgia tailback Todd Gurley did not practice again Wednesday but an even bigger development could be that safety Tray Matthews was held out as well. Q&A: Jenkins hoping he and Bulldogs pass this week's tests

ATHENS -- You'll have to forgive Jordan Jenkins, but he's a little stressed out this week. It's not that whole football thing that has him worried. It's that academic thing. The sophomore from Hamilton has three exams to get ready for this week. They're in accounting, human geography and legal ...

Georgia’s young secondary hopes to show growth vs. Vols

Georgia’s defensive backs haven’t yet reached the point of disillusionment. But if they continue to get victimized at the rate they have, they might soon. Heading into Saturday’s game against Tennessee, the sixth-ranked Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0 SEC) are among the the worst teams in the SEC in virtually every statistical ...

UGA snapper continues family tradition

Freshman walk-on long-snapper Trent Frix got good reviews for his play on Georgia’s punting unit against LSU — and not just for two uneventful snaps. When LSU returner Odell Beckham bobbled a 48-yard punt in the third quarter of a 27-27 game, Frix made a hit that ensured Beckham wouldn’t ...

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
