Barry Jacobs On ACC Schedules

Every coach prefers to play as many games as possible on a home court or home field. This is neither surprising nor mysterious. It’s the coach who strays from this path who commands our scrutiny. Thus 11 of the ACC’s 14 football teams play the majority of their dozen regularly ...

Okafor Down To Four; Looney To Announce On Halloween

Two significant recruiting notes: first, Kevon Looney will announce on Halloween, and second, Jahlil Okafor has cut his list to four: Baylor, Duke, Kansas and Kentucky. If Okafor and Tyus Jones are serious about playing together, that might rule Kentucky out, as Jones canceled his visit after UK signed 5-9 ...

A (Revised & Reposted) Response to Mike DeCourcy

When we posted our response to Mike DeCourcy on Saturday, largely because we were very tired, we didn’t to a very good job, so please forgive us while we revisit that. DeCourcy’s argument is that recruiting played the main role in the recent decline of the ACC; ours held that ...

Larry Kristkowiak Strikes Again!

We were just joking about Larry Kristkowiak the other day after he caught a criminal on-campus, but guess what? The guy appears to be moonlighting as a crime fighter and has now caught another criminal red-handed. It’s pretty remarkable, really.

Looks Like DeCourcy Didn’t Appreciate The Criticism

Mike DeCourcy read our response to his theory of why the ACC declined and didn’t think much: “The folks at Duke Basketball Report tried to debunk my theory on ACC decline by focusing on recent coaching changes. Meh.” Well it’s always nice to be noticed, especially by such an outstanding ...

UNC Faculty Questions Athletics, Quickly Sorted Out

There’s some interesting stuff in this article about UNC faculty and a dissatisfaction with student athlete classroom performance and admissions policies, but if you want to cut through it all you can sum this article up very quickly: When Wayne Lee asked why UNC couldn’t just “unilaterally” sit freshmen athletes, ...

Hokies Nab Recruit

Virginia Tech picked up a recruit from LeBron’s old school when 6-4 Jalen Hudson chose the Hokies. Originally from Richmond, Hudson will be Virginia Tech’s last recruit, barring a transfer or some other surprise development.

After some bumpy negotiations, including a few public comments which were mildly sharp, State and Gale Force Holdings (aka the Hurricanes) have reached a new agreement on how to co-exist in the PNC Arena. DeCourcy Whiffs

Mike DeCourcy looks at the recent ACC decline and asks what was behind it. His theory is, we think, well off the mark: “My theory: Although ACC states produce some terrific basketball talent, there just isn’t enough to feed so many teams.” Well, no, that’s not it. You’ll recall that ...

Pitino Pranked

For whatever reason, soon-to-be ACC coach Rick Pitino has always lived with a certain amount of ridiculousness in his life. It may have to do with a certain amount of pompousness, (or perhaps smarminess is a better word) in his public life, although this seems to have eased up lately. ...

Former UNC tutor Wiley Indicted

The first UNC indictment has been unsealed and it’s former tutor Jennifer Wiley (now Jennifer Thompson). She stands accused of being a middlewoman for agent Terry Watson. This could get very interesting as she was also a private tutor for the child of former coach Butch Davis. If form follows, ...

Dogs have resolve but they’re running out of bodies

If nothing else, Georgia has ensured at least one thing about its season. Regardless of where the rest of the schedule takes them, whether its to an SEC championship, a BCS bowl bid or a national title, there will be no claims from outsiders that this team received too many breaks and escaped health issues, no suggestions that the road to success was lined with lollipops and unicorns.
