It could turn out to be Man’s Second Best Friend.
A new-to-Atlanta dog walking app says it can have someone there to walk Fido with as little as 30 minutes notice. Wag! recently expanded to 16 cities nationwide, including Atlanta and Marietta.
A spokesperson wouldn’t discuss numbers, but said a pool of walkers is available here “day and night” for both on-demand and scheduled walks. More specifically, Wag!’s web site says walks are available from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, and that during peak hours, “most on-demand services are filled within 30 minutes of booking.”
Additionally, Wag! says the app delivers a “pup report” at the end of each walk which includes route information, a picture or video of the pet and “a pee & poo record.”

It’s not quite the doggy version of Uber or Lyft. After all, on-demand ride services don’t provide a “pee & poo” report on passengers(at least we hope they don’t).
Another key difference: Wag! has set fees and it doesn’t do surge pricing -- not even when, say, a hot new dog park opens and every pooch in town is trying to get there at the same time.
Walks here cost $14 for a 20 minutes, $20 for 30 minutes and $30 dollars for a 60 minute walk. Plus $5 extra for each additional dog from the same household (Overnight dog sitting and boarding services are also available).
As for dogs from different households . . . Wag! says it doesn’t walk your dog along with anyone else’s. “Wag! is a personal dog walking service and we only serve one customer at a time,” it explains in the Frequently Asked Questions section on its web site.
Some other responses to commonly asked questions: Owners don’t have to be home at the time of the walk and all the vetted walkers are “passionate animal lovers” (”fewer than 5% of applicants make the cut!” Wag! proclaims in one of its many -- trust us on this -- followup emails to humans who download the app.) Wag! is available in the App Store or Google Play.
