Did the ice bucket challenge for ALS research actually work?

About three years ago, it was nearly impossible to hop online without seeing a video of someone getting dunked with a bucket of ice. The challenge wasn’t just for kicks though; its true purpose was to raise money to ALS. So did it work?

Yes! A whopping $115 million was donated to research for the disease. What’s even more impressive is what scientists discovered as a result.

After using the money for a handful of projects in 11 countries, doctors were able to identify the gene that causes ALS.

They are hoping their findings lead to possible treatment options in the near future.

Turns out getting drenched with freezing, cold water was totally worth it.
