Running the AJC Peachtree Road Race for the first time? The Atlanta Track Club has some tips for you, from one newbie to another.

The club's marketing director, Jay Holder, ran the race course for the first time Monday morning and shared this advice:

• "Don't go out too fast!" he said. "The first three miles are either flat or downhill, but you will need to reserve some energy for the next half of the race."

• "When you think the hills are over, you're wrong"

• "Hydrate"

• "Hydrate again" (then hydrate some more)

• Turning onto 10th Street does not mean the finish line is near — "it's actually more than half a mile down the road"

And, of course, he said, "Have fun!"
