Fall social calendar fills up at luncheon
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
After a recent luncheon at the Lenox Bloomingdale's, Atlanta's philanthropic powerhouses synchronized their calendars. Here's what everyone's up to.
Eileen Rosencrants brought up the Crystal Ball benefiting the Georgia Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. It's set for Oct. 24 at the Buckhead Ritz-Carlton. Chaired by Pam Short Jenkins with Pat King on deck to chair next year, the event honors Tony Brewer. Info: 678-237-4458, www.arthritis.org
Jody Weatherly and Heather Flint are working on the Shepherd Center's Legendary Party. Chaired by Cyndae Arrendale, it's set for Nov. 7 at the Buckhead Ritz-Carlton. Info: 404-350-7778, www.shepherd.org.
Lisa Tush reported this Thursday evening's Bow Tie Society membership cocktail party at the Lenox St. John boutique, where ladies will learn how to tie their guy's bow ties. (Lisa ties husband Bill Tush's all the time, you know. When they met, the veteran showbiz reporter was wearing clip-ons). The Elvis-themed Bow Tie Ball, providing holiday gifts for needy area teens, is set for Nov. 15 at the Georgian Terrace. "Six hundred kids had Christmas last year because of the Bow Tie Society," Tush said. "Last year, one person asked for a Bible." Info: atlantabowtiesociety.com. Tush and Laura Turner Seydel are co-hosting an "Enlightenment Lunch" to discuss healthy eating for young people on Nov. 10 at the Biltmore in Midtown. www.emoryhealthcare.org.
Elizabeth Spiegel noted this Thursday's dinner benefiting the Atlanta Preservation Center at the antebellum Grant Mansion. Canoe chef Carvel Grant Gould will be preparing dinner to be served in the home, which belonged to her great-great-great-grandfather, Col. Lemuel P. Grant. Because Canoe was flooded during the recent storms, Gould will cook at Aria instead. Info: 404-688-3353, www.preserveatlanta.com.
Bloomingdale's general manager Tom Abrams noted tonight's gala dinner for Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS is tonight at the DBD Pavilion at ADAC West (www.diffa.org), and marketing director Mara Maddox said Bloomie's is selling pink umbrellas, bags and water bottles to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Fund.
"As you can see, we are quite a dynamic group," said Joanne Chesler Gross, who hosted the luncheon to thank the group for supporting last month's Atlanta Opera Ball, which she chaired. "Thank you all for everything you've done for Atlanta. I'm proud to say you're my friends."

Congrats to the prospective groom T.J. Holmes
Aww. That was the sound of the InterContinental becoming the Heartbreak Hotel. CNN anchor T.J. Holmes, emceeing the YWCA’s “Open Your Purse” fundraiser on Oct. 1, said he was wrangled into service with the promise of a ballroom full of women staring at him. (We totally were). Then he introduced his lovely fiancee, attorney Marilee Fiebig. We dashed out in between courses to eye her high-wattage bling. “He picked this himself,” she said, waving the hardware. They’ll tie the knot in March in Memphis. Sorry, ladies.
